What Overdrive pedals are you using?

I'm surprised not to have seen it anywhere yet, but maybe I missed it. Check out the HBE Hematoma. It's got a boost function as well, which can help make the OD dirtier, which is cool. EQ switch to give you a brighter, distortion type of tone or a warm overdrive. It retains the bass really well!! I highly recommend checking it out if the Microtubes ends up costing too much. It's everyone's dream, and when it costs too much, people seem to go for the Hematoma if they know about it.

I am pretty much constantly broke, and my frugality has lead me to using an Ibanez PD-7 Bass Overdrive.
Mainly use it for clean boost, but has clean/od/dist settings that are all usable to me. Sounds pretty good, actually. Not boutique in any way, but definitely not bad.

Think I paid 10 or 15 bux for it.

you might gather more info if you asked what OD's we've Had ... and why they're now gone ..!?!?!?

now i have a TC Spark ... mostly for a little tubey grit when played harder ...

that currently runs in to a Wampler Dual Fusion ... 1 side for slightly more break up , the other side mostly for lead guitar ...

in the mail ... SolidGoldFX Beta ... another option for the first stage tube warmth ... mainly because i've tried or talked to folks with the more common pedals ,... and we've found them to be rather farty and raspy , which isn't what i want to ad just a bit of tube warmth in our digital world ...

SolidGoldFx Beta
Bear Effect Blueberry overdrive
Homebrew Electronic Hematoma (maybe it's more a distortion than a pure overdrive)
TC Electronic Vintage Bass Distortion (" "")

How about clean boosts? They're not an overdrive per se but they can overdrive a tube head.
Homebrew Bajo Mos
Xotic RC Booster
Barber Linden

My favorite right now is the MXR Bass Distortion, which if you lighten up on the drive and use LED mode makes an awesome Rat-style light-medium overdrive. I also rotate other pedals in and out, like the Ampeg SCR-DI, the Tech 21 VT Deluxe, a custom Greedtone Overdrive clone that JohnK built, and a Human Gear Animato clone that John also built.

The Boss ODB 3 has always been my favorite. Cheap, reliable and sounds great. It has been around for a long time and there is a good reason why. Have yet to find any overdrive I liked enough to replace it on my board.

I don't know most of the pedals mentioned in this thread, as I haven't tried new stuff for a couple of years. So keep that in mind.

But, after trying most effects on the market that I could get my hands on around 7-8 years ago, my search for the ultimate OD stopped after I got my BJF Blueberry Bass OD. Haven't even wanted to try other OD's after I got it. Smooth, full, and rich overdrive, in a very simple and compact casing. I still have a TC Vintage Bass Distortion (repurchase after selling my T-Rex which I had used live for a few years, worked very well) for when I want more bite, and then I have a ton of other stuff when I want more craziness or energy. But for OD, the Blueberry is it for me.

I was thinking of getting an empress multidrive. I do like the distortion sounds it provides. I was thinking of getting that or the empress heavy. my other choice would of been a dod boneshaker. I've had a hardwire valve distortion at one point and from my perspective, the valve distortion sounds a little heavier than the tube overdrive. still a great pedal to own for bass.

I really should've kept the multidrive longer, but patience is not my best virtue so I sold it....really I dug the overdrive and fuzz, the distortion not so much, still it was very cool pedal!!

Yes, the valve overdrive is heavier *but* I do hear overlap between that and the cm2 depending on where the mini switches are and with lower gain settings on the valve distortion, though its been a few months since I played through either
