What Overdrive pedals are you using?

I just picked up a Wampler Low Blow and an EQD Palisades. The Low Blow does overdrive to distortion.
The Palisades: channel A does nice light OD for an always on type sound, and channel B is great for a heavier drive sound.
These replaced my OCD, which sounds great, but gets mushy past a certain gain level.

No one likes the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] but me? Not made anymore but easy to find used. If you get one, send it to Pigtronix for a clean blend mod, which only cost me $75 and makes it 1000x better. Even if you don't get the clean mod, it already has a parallel clean out you can mix yourself. I love the overdrive with or without clean blend, and the ability to have fuzz in parallel is a huge bonus (I usually run it low w/ high pass for texture), and the octava is a great option. One stop stompin' if you don't want 10 OD/Fuzz/Distortion boxes. I have no time for that, or space.

If any of you tried and hated Disnortion, I'd love to hear why!

Currently on my board is a Way Huge Pork Loin. Subtle, soft clipping, warm OD; not too saturated.
I have a Fuzzrocious Demon on the way. I used a B3K in the un the past. Kinda scooped for an OD but its a very flexible pedal and unique sounding.

3 ODs I use that work with my gear. (Passive jazz bass, Class D amp, 1x12, 2x10, 8x10 cabs)

Darkglass B3K - works great with downtuned tunings I find, or for Drop D RATM tunes.

JohnK Barbershop clone - I use it when I want to warm up my Class D amp, very transparent amp like OD.

DOD 250 - Love using this pedal to stack with fuzz, amp like overdrive, can be used for getting a pick style sound while using finger style playing.

*I dont have anymore but wouldn't mind getting again.

EQD Monarch - Loud as F, great to use for feeding modulation pedals, EQDs take on the Orange amp sound.

Please overdrive pedals only. I keep asking for people's advice(outside of talkbass) on what overdrive pedal to get and I just get loads of people showing me fuzz pedals.

I not looking for a specific sound just wondering; What Overdrive pedals do you find are the best!?

Cheers:thumbsup:

EDIT: Guitar pedals used with bass welcome!

the darkglass bk3 is amazing ! .. but the price is a little too high.. but i am currently using the mxr m89 bass overdrive.. and that is suiting my needs perfectly !.. absolutely no complaints ! its a permanent mainstay

Went through a lot of the ones mentioned here and I'm on the JohnK Transboost now. Sooooo versatile. Does the low gain thing super well, and does fantastic sounding actual transformer saturation if you want to go heavy. I'm in love.

Kind of a hard question, there are so many OD's, and I have quite a few.
For a light overdrive I choose the Fairfield Barbershop ME or Grizzly Bass from Creation Audio Labs. This particular one is very versatile, it has five controls volume, overdrive, distortion, mid scoop and hi pass filter. It does light overdrive very well but is capable of much mich more.
For something heavier I use the Johnk built Greedtone overdrive, it has a more/less setting that makes it go on the dark side of the force.
Other options are OCD, Wampler Ecstasy, Throbak Overdrive boost.
The list could be much longer...take a look at Johnk Overdrive page.

B7K, even though I *dont* use it as an overdrive, but it makes everything I run into it sound so much better!!

Still have my old DOD bass overdrive, but it needs to be repaired as its acting very strange right now...

On my board are both the V2 Swell Bpro and the bk butler "Real Tube Overdrive", both are amazing sounding pedals, before this I had the fulltone bassdrive and it was cool, but I found the 2nd channel useless for my needs, but I still have the OCD (v3!!)...

The digitech/hardwire"tube overdrive" and "valve distortion" are both still amazing to me, and both *can* be voiced similarly so they are good to stack.

I also had the Swell Bpeg, a V3 bpro, fuzzrocious rat tail, the BDPG, but I found a real winner with the SA OFD, its just amazing, and I'm pretty sure it'll be my go to dirt, the tube settings are wonderful, nice and touch responsive and not "digital" sounding in the slightest, I still wanna try the DG VMT though, or even the VMTD as an always on grit, since I built my fEARful cab I've had to really dial back the clank in my tone, and I wonder if the VMTD would better suite my needs....

Finding the right Overdrive is a deep, deep rabbit hole of $$$, I also briefly owned the empress multidrive, I could've saved alot of money and time if I just got the OFD in the first place, but then again I can now make a slightly better decision based on the few I tried, good luck!!

I was thinking of getting an empress multidrive. I do like the distortion sounds it provides. I was thinking of getting that or the empress heavy. my other choice would of been a dod boneshaker. I've had a hardwire valve distortion at one point and from my perspective, the valve distortion sounds a little heavier than the tube overdrive. still a great pedal to own for bass.

For overdrive I use a TC Electronics Sparkle Drive, great pedal for being able to add back your clean signal into the mix. For distortion I use a GK Diesel Drive. I think of that pedal as the "RAT" for bass players. Having some control of EQ works great. For all out nasty fuzz a ZVEX Mastotron does the trick for me.

I like it so much I bought 2 ... But my guess is no one here has ever used one (or even considered it) that would be the VOX Ice 9 OD a two stage pedal stage 1 is standard OD stage 2 a 14db boost, two voices vintage and modern and a dedicated BASS control, so there is no low end loss. I keep one on my main board and a second in my gig bag battery powered ... If it didn't say VOX on it and have Joe Satrianis signature on it it could be sold as a bass OD, it may be the great "sleeper" pedal of our time.
