Moto G ant Moto G Play. Wish the world was simpler and I could have just stuck with my old LG VX8300 clamshell...you know...a phone. My "smart phone" will always be the cheapest thing I can make work, until it absolutely will not work anymore, and then I'll find whatever is currently the cheapest....I view them like I view paying for anything else I don't want nor need but am required to have; car registration, license renewal fees, garbage pickup added to our local taxes whether I use it or not, blah blah.

Some sort of iPhone. I usually get one of the flagships after they have been out awhile and keep it until either the battery wears out or security support ends. I usually get 5 to 7 years out of it which is pretty good. I tried a pixel once and they gave up on guaranteed support after a couple of years which made it a very expensive experiment when amortized over its life.

I have my complaints about apple but they are still way better than the problems I have encountered with windows/android. I don’t care if the problems can be fixed, i don’t want to have to put my IT had on when I’m trying to do a basic task.

I think I have an Iphone 11 or 12 - I pretty much just use my phone for a phone and for texting apps, just Instagram as social media but even then probably gonna delete that soon.

I mostly use my Ipad for things like reading and typical smartphone stuff. I have used my phone in the pass for games but now again just use it for phone stuff and pictures. Also for keeping track of things with my Apple Watch which is the cheapest one and I am pretty sure they stop selling them recently.

iPhone 14 Pro Max, which I love. Think I’m gonna spring for the 17 Pro Max when it comes out in a few months. I’ve always had windows PCs, but I think Apple’s iOS works so much better for me on a phone. I feel as though we’re at a point where phones are pretty great across the board, it’s just splitting hairs now, with slight refinements year after year.

Samsung Galaxy S23. I've had it close to a year now, doing ok except the charge / USB connecter fell back into the housing and is useless. Have to charge and transfer data wirelessly. Crap quality for such an expensive bit of gear.

Same for me, more than a year also. Satisfied with mine… No problem with USB-C port.

I switched from an iPhone 13 to a Pixel 9 about 6 months ago.

Last month I switched back to the iPhone 13. The Android experience was just a little too disjointed for me (a Mac user).

I did like it......apparently just not enough.

iPhone 7.

It has been a good reliable phone until just about a month ago when the battery would no longer hold a charge. It took it to the local Apple store and they told me they could replace the battery but that the cost of $70 would be worth more than the phone (which evidently is worth nothing even if fixed). Being a cheap person, I went ahead and had them replace the battery.

The phone is back to working like it did, but wouldn't you know it, several apps that I rely on stopped working a few days after the battery replacement. These apps require a newer operating system than my old phone (with the new battery) supports. Go figure. I'll get a new iPhone when the next generation is released in September.

My iPhone 7 did the same thing, and I put up with it for awhile because I don’t live on my phone like some people. But I now have some things coming up for which a reliable phone is essential, so a few weeks ago I replaced it. My partner convinced me to join onto her plan (I had been on Tracfone), and they tried to give me an iPhone 16, but I don’t need the latest and greatest. The oldest iPhone they could offer me was an iPhone 14, which is still seven generations newer and can use iOS 18. So far so good. I like how it shares info with my iPad. I’m sure it would with my Mac, too, if that wasn’t such an antique.

I took tha bait and ordered a new Pixel 9

Pixel 9 was also among my prospect list when I wanted to buy a new phone this New Year. However, I couldn't justify the price difference between this and the phone I got, Samsung Galaxy S24. It's the previous year model so it got a huge discount, plus I don't think there'd be a huge difference between this and this year's S25 except for the price.

I planned to use my current phone for several more years because I spent what was, for me, a lot of money on it.

I also kept my previous phone, the LG V50. My problem with it was the SIM card slot which malfunctions from time to time, and I think that's a huge problem for a phone. Otherwise, its camera, screen, and audio capabilities are still fine. All my CD rips and digital media are on it, and I delegated it as my main entertainment (music and videos) device. But unlike you, I just spent a little on it: just around USD 230 since I bought it two years after its release.

I only buy refurbished iPhones, when the previous dies or key apps are unupgradable I search for the best I can buy around €300. To spend more for a phone it’s immoral IMHO

I've been with Google Pixel phones over the Google Fi wireless service since the original Pixel. I've used Pixel 1, 3, 5a, 6, and now 8.

I'm very happy with the Google Fi service. I pay only $27 per month, but full disclosure: my employer provides me with a free WiFi hotspot so I don't need to use any data over the Fi network. Fi works extremely well in my large metro area... often not as well as Verizon if I head into the sticks, but I don't do that very often.

I used to work in mobile sales, and was so enamored with how different phones were, that I used to switch all the time. I think in one year I had something like 13 or 14 different android models just to try a bunch of them out. Sadly, I did not get any discounts different from members of said cellular network, but I would typically buy a phone used, use it for a month or two, and then sell it for around the price that I paid.

Since leaving that job 2ish years ago, I’ve toned it down some. I still switch more often than most seem to here, but now it’s about once every year. Last year upon release, I got an S24 and kept that for a whole year, trading in a Pixel 7.
I had planned to keep that phone for as long as it would be supported, but old habits die hard and I wanted something with a bit more synergy with my wife’s Apple ecosystem. She likes Find My, iMessage, etc.. so I traded in the S24 for an iPhone 15+, “free” from my current carrier. But recently I’ve started to miss my android again, and so we’ll see if the cycle continues.

Pixel 9a looks great for battery life and not being overly expensive!

Moto G Play 2. I've been with Consumer Cellular for several years, initially beginning with a refurb'd Moto G Play for $60. The Sim card went south last week, and when I called in to inquire, they said 'Well Mr. Wilson, you have the insurance/replacement you've been paying $4 every month, we can send you the new version of your phone for free'. Done Deal !

I could never carry some thousand dollar plus phone. I'd never lose a hundred-dollar Motorola, but gimme a $1500 i-phone, I just know I'd sit on it, drop it in a lake, or just lose it.
