What Power Amp is in your Rack Rig??

This is older Picture of my SS Bmax in an SKB shallow X-Rack case. The new unit is a BMax-T driving the QSC GX5. It's all mounted in a rack bag now with the same Furman unit. The GX5 is an great bargain and came with free 6 year warranty.

I like to use the dual mono output with the jumper. It will drive 500 watts into each of my 8ohm Avatar cabinets. Great little amp for the money.

I currently use a Crown Powerbase-2 that I bought over a decade ago because it was inexpensive, but still has plenty of power.

I'd probably use my Crest CA-6 (also quite old), but it's too deep for my current SKB rack.

Here's the story.

I bought a used QSC PLX or something on ebay because it was cheap. It arrived damaged and left me up a creek, because I needed the rig for a show that weekend. So I went to the local pro-audio shop, and they recommended it over comparable products from Crown and QSC, and it was cheaper. I bought it and haven't been disappointed at all. The only con I have found is that it weighs > 50 lbs.

The whole rig weighs 10x more than my EA Micro 300, but also has nearly 2.5x the power.

I use the Avalon U5 di / pre --> Rane DC24 dual channel compressor.

I have SVT-4PRO's driving SVT-810e's and SVP-1600's driving SVT-215e's currently. When I'm done restoring my vintage Harley I'll get back to working on the amp... I'm having a lot of fun assembling the bike in my dining room (along with the amp) since I have 6" of new snow to shovel in the driveway.

Yeah but I have a nice SB, it's over at the warehouse, weighs about 300#. This storm just sorta showed up and I need my kid to help load the thing in my van to bring it back over here and he's away at college.

Yes, the Big Rig could clear the driveway, all I'd need is a CD player and a recording of a snow blower, set it in the garage and plug it in.

Just the amp rack with the 4PRO's is 450#... I'm going to buy a double width rack to put 6 SVP-1600's in alongside the 4PRO's. I plan to do this later in the winter. SO basically its less heft to move the Snow Blower than the amp... :hmm:

Regarding Crown Macrotech 5002 VZ: I really doubt there are any amps of appreciable power that are Class A that one can actually put into three rack spaces and weigh low enough that someone would actually want to cart it in a bass rig. That sounds like unsubstantiated hype to me, though I'd have to look at the manual to see what the actual topology might be.

At the time of purchase it was one of your lighter options that also had gobs of power.
It was also bought by the reputation it had for great sound quality via an old Bass Player magazine power amp shootout.
It replaced a first generation Mackie power amp that was pretty much garbage, IMO.

I'm using a Carvin DCM1540L. I just built this rig. The 15 and the 10's have neo mags and are completely sealed from each other in the cab. I run the amp in stereo so I can have seperate volume controls on the 15 and 10's. I'm only using a VT Bass pedal, a BBE Opto Stomp and a Sonic Stomp in front of it. Got to use it in a gig for the first time last weekend. Sounded awesome, I can now focus my G.A.S. in other places... :smug:

QSC PLX3102 because it's light and loud. to my ear all the light weight power supply amps lack the "depth" and "bottom" (i've had crown and stewart light weight amps too) of the heavy power amps. I also have a couple QSC RMX1450's. They sound better to me, but to heavy to haul.
