What questions do you wish people would stop asking?

One post mentioned playing a 1-minute "Freebird." A band I was in a looooong time ago played a 30-second "Back In The USSR." We hated the song. But the crowd loved that short version. Back when "Freebird" was being played over the air, Carl P Mayfield (rock-jock on KDF Radio Nashville) was so sick of it that he played it once at 78 RPM. Think 'the Chipmunks.' He got a LOT of flack over that. He never did that again.

I forgot about the infamous volume complaints! I remember a gig where simultaneously people were hating on us because were were not loud enough/too loud!

I remember taking a jazz trio gig a few years ago for a guy's 70th birthday party. Myself, guitar and tenor sax, doing jazz standards.

We started at what I considered a reasonable volume ( i.e. 'soft') but the event coordinator continually complained the music was too loud. It got to the point where I had my bass on 1, the guitarist was barely audible above the actual acoustic volume of his jazz box, and the sax player was struggling to get any sound out of his sax at all, because when he blew it hard enough for it to produce actual notes, they were still "too loud". LOL.

I don't know why they just didn't use a CD player...

I think those who ask that question are bedroom bass players who never get out live. I'm just not McCarty and I play in cover bands; not copy bands. I do live near his place in Amagansett NY though...

I had a co-worker friend of mine angerly walk out of my gig because we denied his request to come up and sing. While he was usually a reasonable guy, he had a look of shock and said "did you say No?!?" It's amazing to me how often this question has come up.

"Do you know this song...?"

"No, I'm really sorry, but we don't..."

"Oh, you do too..."

"Dude, if we did, we'd say so, now go sit down...!"

excellent! some people expect you to play note by note like what's on the recording. If that's the case they need to go home and throw some vinyl on the turntable.

Or, "how com you don't play that like what's on the record? "Which one, the greatest hits, or live version?"
