Exactly. I still cringe when I think of the first thread I started here back in '09. Having never heard of SX basses, and finding nothing after doing a Search, I posted a question inquiring about them. Little did I know the search function didn't recognize two-letter entries ("SX"). Pretty red-faced when I learned the long thread about 'Essex' basses was already going for some time now. Gawd, what a noob I was. :facepalm:

With me it's less about the question and more about the answer. Too many times people will give someone a hard time for asking a question that has been asked before and post a link to some thread from who knows when.

It usually comes off as being a little snide.

The reality... TB has been around long enough that nearly every question could have been asked already.

If people just used this as a database, and not a forum, what would we have to talk about....

Perish the thought, but they might have to rename it from TalkBass to Research Bass.... or maybe even.... DataBass.

'The search function is your friend'...

Actually the search function is just a search function. It's useful for those who prefer to read and gather info on their own, but many new members do not even know specifically what to search for, nor want to.

My observation after 26 years of being involved with developing music community forums as far back as the original BB boards in 1996, there is always someone willing to help. We didn't have Google back then, we were all literally populating the nets earliest databases with real life info. We HAD to interact. There are always veterans or the newly educated who want to provide the guidance. In fact many newly informed members enjoy being of service and contributing back, and many patient thoughtful veterans are willing to provide value, day in and out. It's a perpetual cycle.

Every topic imaginable will be recycled over and over.

A question I hate to see? " Ugh, another P-Bass Thread"?...Yep another P-Bass thread, and why not? That is exactly what we are here to discuss, over and over and over! As a massive gear head and lifelong muso, I am grateful beyond words for the collective wisdom here.

Good grief. This happened all the time in my last band. They will assure you that they do in fact know all the words and are comfortable singing and it will be great. When in fact, they do not know most of the words and it will most assuredly be painful for all involved.
