I never really liked them, tho I can apprecieate them.

But that song reminds me of when I 1st heard of those blokes.. and hearing the song gives me kindof a flashback to 6th grade for some reason.
a girl I knew had this giant rush emblem on her jean jacket... she wasnt hot at all..in fact I think she came out of the closet 20 yrs later.. or should have.. but anyway..yeah, fly by night.

I know where you're coming from but even though I kind of feel the same way, it's actually more like saying that that's the song that speaks to him, regardless of what it does or doesn't do for the rest of us.

I was cruising on the motorway yesterday, the sun was out (rare) and everything felt really good, I put Spirit of radio on and have to say it is my ultimate driving song, it has so much in it and is a simply awesome song, to me it sums up Rush, what do you think ?

I would think that Red Barchetta would be the ultimate Rush driving song. It is about fond memories of cruising in a special automobile, after all.

As for the "one song that sums up Rush" (there really is no such thing), I would have to concur regarding Tom Sawyer...simply because the song just oozes sheer power. And Rush is nothing if not powerful.

"Temples of Syrinx"

2112 is a leaping off point to so much that defines Rush as a band. "Temples" is pretty much the most emotionally and musically intense song from that album. No denying that they got even a bit more adventurous after this, but without the success of 2112 and "Temples" I don't think they would have the creative confidence to progress.

Let's face it: When Dave Grohl puts on a kimono to honor Rush at the RRHOF induction ceremony, that tells you the iconic image of Rush that remains in a lot of people's minds. (For those of you from the digital age that unfortunately has no regard for album sleeve images and liner notes, please google some images of the back of the 2112 album sleeve--and I hope the next generation learns how to put imagery and music back together again some day soon.)
