What to do when you're dead...

On various occasions I have made representations about "playing that funky music 'til I die." I was just funnin'. At some point I will stop gigging, and when I do that, I will stop playing. And I will dispose of my instruments while I'm still compos mentis. This, of course, is merely a plan. Anything can, and will, happen. That's the best part. :D

I'm Scandanavian, so I think a Viking funeral would be kinda nice, though not practical, EPA red tape not withstanding.
My stuff will be raffled off to a handful of friends, and relatives.
Jeff Beck and Slacktone will be blasted through a stereo while they nosh my Uncles/Cousins smoked Salmon.

Not that I've given it a lot of thought. ;-)

Edit: My brother from-from-another-mother called 'dibs' on my P Bas. I thought it was mildly ghoulish, but more than that, I was flattered that he thought it was that nice.

I want my corpse to be mounted on a funeral pyre composed entirely of my bass gear, with my 4003 clutched in my hands when the fire is lit.
So, it's Fireglo? :smug:

I plan to list all my gear at a ridiculously low price on Talkbass about an hour before I die so I can torment all of you by not responding to your PM's.;) I'm sure someone will be saying "Yeah, I know you're dead. But I wonder if you'll consider a trade?"

If I still have an expensive bass then I would have my wife or kids (whoever is still around) sell it for any financial needs....then take my less expensive bass(es) and give them away to a young musician wanting to learn and create music and memories....

I've donated my remains to science. That's even cheaper than a cremation.

If I'm in Thailand, definitely cremation.

No one else in my entire family cares about making music, except maybe on a karaoke level.
So, my gear would be sold for sure, unless I die slowly.

If I'm just creeping towards death. I'll take all my gear to Sam Ash or GC & sell it all in one go, then get on the next flight to Thailand for a massive blowout, big enough to kill me.

I really like this idea. At-risk youth need every chance us that's got can give 'em. It's a kind of organ donation, if you think a little about it.

Assuming none of my hypothetical grandkids take up music: I have a 14-year-old nephew whom, if he's still playing, I'll bequeath my 78 P and my Guild B30. The rest I'll donate.

Funny I am a huge Hitchcock fan and immediately thought of this tune when I read the topic. Well played, sir. Well played.
