I'm spending the year dead for tax purposes, and have a unique perspective. No need to worry about your gear; when you die, it vanishes.

I told my wife I would make a list of which of my musical collaborators and best buds should get a bass from my collection. There are a few ultra-special ones that I would hope stay with my family. My sons are way too young to really get it right now.

Same here. My family, accept for my mother, can't play and don't want to get into playing. Sure I'd understand them keeping it, but I'd want someone to be playing it too.

I sometimes think it would be cool for my son to use a couple of them at my funeral to play Wish You Were Here and Shine on You Crazy Diamond.

My gear is his if he wants it (he's primarily a guitarist) and if not I would want it to benefit some good cause.

I thought it would be interesting to be cremated and have ones ashes mixed into rf shielding paint and applied to a new batch of instruments. You could be applied to all of your collection and continue the journey with them.

She's a fragile barely playable late 60's Greco Beatle bass my first sweetheart and if I left her behind she would probably end up in a landfill can't let that happen.

I remember my first trip to Argentina and I went to the famous graveyard called The Recolleta in Buenos Aires. The mausoleums were outrageous - ornate marble and very big. Then I saw a row of smaller, but more ostentatious ones that had cable TV service and everyone was playing CNN.

So - the moral of the story is that I haven't figured out what I'm doing with my gear after I die, but I know that I wont be watching CNN in 200 years.

I haven't given it much thought. Being that I have no wife or kids or family or a will for that matter. Maybe I'll will the equipment to the local school music department.
