What was your first bass guitar?

1968 Cherry Red Epiphone Rivoli. Purchased new in Spring, 1969. I was 15, and thought I was in Heaven.

It was an "HD1200 Stage Guitars" P-Bass knockoff similar to this one, except a deep candy red and no bridge pickup. Pawned it for $60 in 1995.

My first "brand name" bass was a 1994 Fender P-Bass, which I bought new that same year; that one I still have.

This one,a Cortez J-Bass copy.I've changed the pups,electronics and hardware along the way but the neck body and pickguard are original.Purchased in 1978.

1994 Squier Affinity Jazz Bass. My dad gave it me back in 2007 from a youth centre where he worked, as they were having a clearout. and i'd told him i wanted a guitar. Unfortunately, it was in horrible condition.

Mine was a black Fender Jazz Bass Special MIJ I got as a hand me down. It was alright, got me through the first few years.

Oh man, I STILL can remember the day I got my first bass. Christmas morning 2009, the smell of pine needle under my feet, the tags of new clothes scratching my neck, and the last giant box, neatly wrapped in green paper, teasing me as I await the moment for me to open it. As I ripped the paper open and saw the graphic on the box that read Ibanez Bass Guitar Jumstart Kit, I felt an overwhelming feeling of joy run over me.

Even after 2 and a half years, my Ibanez GSR200 is still my #1 Go-To bass.

So, I guess my question to you all is, what was your first bass, how did you get it, how long did you play it, and do you still have it?

First bass was a bottom of the range Yamaha with active pickups. Can't remember the model. The only passive bass I had was an Epiphone Thunderbird and I hated it (neck dive and bad tone )
I bought it myself as I wanted to learn it. I'll never be an excellent player, but I know enough to get by ;-)

Mine was a Yamaha RBX and I couldnt have picked a better bass to start on. Good playability and comfortable. Got it in 93 and played it for about 2 years before I moved on. It got sold from one person to another and ended up being several other pro player's first bass as well.

Tiesco Del Rey of course!! Christmas 1971 or 1972. It was red, rosewood neck, block inlays, two big humbucker looking pickups with a camera-case overlay, and a black pickguard with silver vines embossed on it. I believe the headstock was woodgrain, and it was short-medium scale. I pawned it years ago, but I wish I still had it. I tried to find a picture of it online but couldn't.

My first was a 1967-68 Red Guild Startfire bass. I paid it off at a music pawn shop in the NYC 48th st. music district. It cost $280 which was a small fortune for me.....It was a beautiful bass to look at but as a bass it didn't sound all that great.....Later I sold it and got a Fender P Bass.....

My very first bass was a Jay Turser Jazz bass and that particular bass felt like it weighed a ton! I don't really call it my first bass because basically it sucked and I only had it for about a week then bought my first Fender P bass and have been playing them ever since exclusively.
