Technically MY first bass was a Spector NS-2a..
But I was playing on my brothers Arai Pro II before that.. and his Fernandes "explorer" type also. But the Spector was all mine.

Squier II precision - sold it about 6 years ago - missed it so much, I found another TBer on here selling one in the exact same color! this is the new one...
First "real" bass I had was a no name Jazz copy, bought (new) at a Pawn shop on the north side of Pittsburgh, 30+ years ago. I sold it to a friend about a year later, he still has it. I'm thinking about buying it back, just because...

My first bass was a Japanese copy of a Hofner Beatle bass. Cost about $50 or so. This was about 1966-67 (hard to remember the 60s).
It was a piece of junk and was soon replaced with a Fender Precision, about a '64 or '65, purchased for $150. A couple years later I stripped the P-bass, routed it for an additional (jazz) pickup, and put a Jazz neck on it. Although the result was still a very fine playing and sounding bass I'm still kicking myself for that one.
But I console myself with the memory of a good friend back then (in the late 60s) who had a 1960 stack knob Jazz in great condition. He also stripped the finish and pulled the frets. Then he got tired of it (!) and sold it for about a 150-200 bucks. Who knew?

it was a PittLoan pawnshop LYLE SG plywood bass, which I actually STILL have hanging around, just to "remember" the junk I had to play back in the early 80's before I had enough money to buy something substantial.
Mine was a Vantage. Great starter bass with really low action, actually. I miss that bass. I sold it to my high school for the band program.

my first electric was a white flying v bass. i bought it to piss off my dad in the mid eighties who had been raising me on classical music / bass since birth. (also not mine pictured here)
Ibanez jumpstar pack bass. The cheap set, not the $220 one. Came with a 15 watt amp, that I blew after a year of playing really low. I still use that thing. I love it.
This topic has been brought up before, but since you've asked my first bass was a mid 70's Japanese copy of a Jazz Bass with black nylon strings. I was originally white, but the guitarist in my band at the time painted it all psychodelic green, white and silver. It actually sounded pretty decent now that I look back on it. Eventually I upgraded to a 75' 4001 Ricky.
