What was your first bass guitar?

1997 Epiphone Accu-Bass Jr. My father bought it for me brand new as a birthday gift when I was a freshman in college. Still have the bass and wouldn't sell it for the world. In all honesty it isn't a bad bass by any means - decent tone, quality finish and is built like a tank.

Strad-O-Lin Sunburst Hollow Body.
Teisco Amp (Guitar) with Reverb and Tremelo

Traded it for a "Conrad" solid body.
That thing was cool. Had cutoff rocker switches for the pickups.

Traded that for a Jazz. (C. 1968) Loved that bass.
It was stolen out of my car in Atlantic City.
My own DumA$$ fault for not putting it in the trunk.

Replaced that with another Jazz that I sold when I "hung it up."

Wish I had it back. :rollno:

Finally the Kalamzoo appears! Mine was blue (like this one on ebay that you can buy for $41). Paid more for it back in '72! Lent it to a friend and never saw it again. Lesson learned.

Sidenote - I'm seeing "Crappy Bassists with Expensive Gear" club numbers. I'd like to know if there's an "Awesome Bassists with Crappy Gear" club. Thanks!

In 1962 I paid 75.00 bucks for a used Zim-Gar that was styled like a P-Bass. It was a very decent instrument with a good sound and the weight was very good also. The neck was a bit deeper than a Fender but very playable. I kept it even after I purchased an upgrade and even bought it back once for a keep sake. I think in 1967 I was distracted by some red leb. substance and a table saw and me did the bass wrong. Should have donated it to a schools band but you know how it was/is when the artistic design side of you comes out along with a pipe and some killer red and saw on a table. Not good for the old Zim-Gar!!! Doc

Here's mine - a cousin gave it to me in 1988, after it had lived in his basement for quite some time. The logo has fallen off (it was a metal plate attached to the headstock), but it's a Kent with a metal pickguard. As far as I know, it still has the original strings on it.

Played guitar from 1959-1970
First bass played in band when trading off w/bass player (in 1963) - 1963 Fender P-Bass burst, alder/rw. It's why I still play a P.
First bass owned (in 1970) - 1970 Fender J-Bass burst, alder/rw. Probably the worst bass I ever owned - (CBS)

Squier P Bass I got for Christmas. Loved it at the start, but now when I look back at it, it was horrible. The action was crazy high, the neck was bad and it just didn't sound good at all.

But still, it was my first so it will always have a special place in my memories!
