What would be your ideal jazz bass?

I think I have mine, but if we're on to "ideal," I'd like it to weigh a bit less and for the side dot markers to be a little more visible...

Walnut body finished in gun-stock oil and wax
Birds-eye maple neck finished in shellac by Phil Kubicki
Rosewood fingerboard
Schaller roller bridge
Seymour Duncan (not "Basslines") Hot stack jazz p'ups
V/T for each pick-up plus...
Master volume/Sweep
All stacked knobs in black/chrome (three in line rather than diagonal)
A roller string tree
An abalone and mother-of-pearl rose inlay in the headstock
A diamond set into the sweep control
End pin jack

She's a beauty, and sounds/plays divine, but she's heavy...

Got them! Got my old '73 Jazz bass. It's a mutt of differant parts (things needed to be replaced) but it's mine.

Also have my American Standard 5 string Jazz bass that I bought about two weeks ago.

I'm happy!!

Pretty much a stock AmStd Jazz, rosewood fingerboard, with the following changes:

2 tone nitro sunburst body and clear nitro on neck
Dunlop Straploks and not Schaller
8 lbs. or less

The 8 lbs. or less thing is very difficult to achieve without spending lots of money with a boutique builder, so I don't see another Jazz in my future, sad to say. OTOH, I have enough basses ;)

LOL! Abalone Fender logo! Whatsamatter, decals good enough for Jaco and Jamerson but not for you? Gotta make your bass all foofy, eh? Why not get Hello Kitty fret inlays, too?

Come to think of it, Hello Kitty fret inlays would be pretty sweet. And I've seen an abalone Fender logo on my band's previous guitarist's FMT Tele and it looks pretty sweet, too.

Lol no I love stock Fender decals as well but if you're gonna spec it out it better be unique. The abalone logo is a little ridiculous, though.

Other than a few light ash American Deluxe Fenders from the previous generation with downsized bodies, that's what I've seen too, and it's a drag. Aside from its weight (a little over 9 lbs.), my G&L JB is very much like a boutique J-bass. The finish and construction are comparable, and G&L's finish and neck options make it a veritable custom shop.

I have enough basses too, but at some point, as the joints start to creak a bit more, I might have to splurge for a lightweight Jazz.
