I'm right between Middle Man and Obeyer, and I do it for right hand slap/ left hand chord fingering ergonomics. Damn you Victor and your double thumb technique!
"The Obeyer" because I like it at the same position/height as when I am sitting. Though I can't sight-read for crap and you won't really catch me dead with tablature.
Closest to Obeyer, because at the end of the day, it's a musical instrument. Getting props from teens for kewl strap length has never been a goal (I started playng bass at 27).

Me too, I channeled Mark King with my bass strap for years (decades?). Now I'm probably an obeyer. As it turns out though, so is Mark King.LOL! Nice!
When I started I was definitely the 'High Tower' guy (thanks to Mark King!) Now I'm 'Middle Man' - 'plays anything, with a smile'. Yup, that's me!
mostly this ^ for me. i think my avatar pic is me sitting on a stool using my right leg to 'boost' the instrument up closer to a "high tower." but it's a little lower most of the time.

I'm mostly middle man bordering on low rider sometimes. All the band stuff I do is rock and looking "cool" is part of the equation
Started as a Low Rider, but the more seriously I took my craft, the higher my bass has gotten.
The last straw was working out a riff in my last band, bass what in Middle Man/Obeyer position. Couldn't get the riff to work, so I hiked up the bass to Folkie. The riff came streaming out effortlessly. Haven't lowered my bass since.

I probably land somewhere between middle man and low rider. It's easy enough for me to keep my wrists straight, my beer belly doesn't get in the way, it feel comfortable there, etc. if I go much higher I can't get my right wrist straight and if I go lower it's hard to play for my fretting hand.
I'm a middle man myself... also, I've never heard the term "high tower", I always referred to those guys as nipple riders.
In my 20's, low rider - at my height, finding straps long enough was a challenge. Every decade, up half an inch of so. Now squarely a middle man. And I'm a bit shorter. Not so hard to find straps anymore.
One thing I've noticed is, if you play a leather strap long enough, it does stretch. You have to hike it up at some point, or you regress to a lower playing position.

Usually low rider, often middle man (I have about 4 holes in each strap and often change position during sets). I often like to play with the neck angled upwards and pluck the strings near or over the neck like an upright, so even when the bass is hanging low my right arm is not really extended very far.
