An Officer and a Gentleman was playing in the theater by me so I went to go see it. Never saw it before. It's an odd movie. Was I meant to like Richard Gere's character? His dad was a bit of a douche and they lived somewhat irresponsible lives in various naval bases and then Richard Gere wants to better himself and join the Navy, and that's why I'm supposed to like him? He's a prick to women, barely loyal to his friends, and generally an unsavory character. It was cooling seeing an 80s movie in the theater though. I've never done that.
A lot of 80s movies really don't hold up well today, esp. in terms of a-hole characters, icky behavior, etc.
Thank God for Die Hard, though. It made the 80s worthwhile ...
