Whatcha watching?

Poor Things. A weirdly enjoyable fairytale.
I thought the story was an interesting reinvention of the Frankenstein tale and Emma Stone did an amazing job. While I understand that the sexual content was important as part of her self-discovery, it was highly overused IMO. The movie could have easily been 30 minutes shorter and still conveyed the story.

Recently found "Fridays" on Amazon Prime. I remember watching it in high school, although to be honest, none of the skits were memorable. The best part about that show was the musical guests. The first episode had Kenny Loggins performing (NOT miming) "Keep The Fire". The second episode had the Clash performing three songs, "London Calling", "Train In Vain", and "The Clampdown". This is the show where Michael Richards and Larry David got their start. A whacky alternative to SNL to be sure.

We're working through season 2 of A Discovery of Witches. Fascinating, and more than a bit relevant to today's world, in the broad issues the show is really about (not demons, witches, and vampires, they are just a vehicle to portray what's happening on Earth).

Robert De Nero and Robert De Nero with a fake nose as Frank Costello and Vito Genovese. It was like Goodfellas but much, much worse. Half an hour too long. I don't understand why they would do this. Without the gimmick of the dual roles and with better writing it could've been really good.

De Niro has been in some really questionable stuff. I don't think he needs the money. He can be more choosey.

I don't understand why they did it this way. The script has apparently been around for 50 years and never got any traction. And then in 2025 they decide it's time and the best choice is 81 year old De Niro playing two people like the nutty professor. Why? It added nothing to the story. Costello was regular De Niro and Genovese was De Niro ever so slightly changing his voice. Very strange movie, but it didn't suck. He was actually really good in it. Everyone was. But if just felt hollow and pointless.

I watch Anora thia eveneing. I waited until I could stream it without paying and am glad I did. I can understand Mikey Madison winning best actress for this, but other than that it was an overlong slog of gratuitous sex (not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that) intermingled with a predictable plot, shallow characters, forced dialog and the occasional humorous moment. Future generations will look back and say "Best Picture, what the hell were they thinking?".

Agreed. The first 30-40 mins were strong, but after that it's just people yelling at each other in Russian. And it really needed some editing. Some of the scenes went on forever.

1923.
Made it to episode two after falling asleep a couple times. It seems like this can be a good show, but it's confusing trying to keep up with the various storylines. Guys in Montana, guys in Africa, gals being trained like slaves, guys in World War I.
