Whatcha watching?

I watched the first 3-4 episodes at a friend's house a couple months ago. Great stuff indeed. I don't have access to that channel anymore to watch it again. I can't convince myself to pay for the required subscription because then I'll feel obligated to watch it, which in turn I think will take away from my enjoyment of it.

I know it's not gonna be good but this made me laugh.

It looks like it has potential because, judging from the trailer, it doesn't seem like it's going to be slavishly devoted to the original movies (or the "Police Squad!" TV series that started it all). That would be a big mistake, because those are classics, and there's no need to essentially remake them. Obviously, there are nods to the originals, but there may also be enough newly inspired humor to make this movie worth watching.

Then again, it may be a total disaster...

This movie is ******* terrible. It's boring and the characters suck. The story sucks. The violence sucks. Everything about this movie was bad.

At our son's suggestion, we watched "Prey" this weekend. It's a little slow in spots, but the story is solid and the movie is enjoyable. A fitting prequel.

Also in memory of Val Kilmer, we watched "Top Secret". Definitely not one of the better Zucker-Abrahms-Zucker movies, but a fun watch regardless.

"Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid"

It has some genuine laughs, but the gimmick of inserting scenes from classic B&W films into the movie wore thin, IMO. It's worth watching once, though, especially since it was on TCM and I didn't have to pay to stream it.
I remember a teenage me drooling over Rachel Ward in this movie. 😛

The Rehearsal - a 2022 HBO reality series (I guess, or comedy, or commentary - its hard to categorize). It got great reviews, but I couldn't make it through the second episode. The whole thing is kind of cringey and off-putting.

Also, started Paradise tonight. Dystopian mysteries are up my alley, so it's a win so far.

Yeah, all the yammering about the Electric State on Netflix seems silly to me. Tales From The Loop is definitely superior work!

"The Electric State" tried too hard to be funny, and it rarely was. Then it tried too hard to be heartfelt and profound, and that didn't work, either. The special effects were routine. The whole movie was just...flat.

"Ludwig" is a very amusing and entertaining series about a brilliant but socially challenged gentleman who makes his living setting puzzles for newspapers (under the nom de plume of Ludwig). Then his *twin* brother who is a homicide detective for Cambridge police disappears under mysterious circumstances, leaving some puzzling warnings for his wife. The protagonist, played by the wonderful David Mitchell (above), travels reluctantly to Cambridge, staying with his brother's family, and begins to masquerade as his brother while he tries awkwardly to sort out what happened. Meantime, though, he keeps solving complicated murder cases—one each episode. The show is a bit reminiscent of "Monk" if you liked that, but no OCD problems and, well, it's very British. The show's on BritBox if you get that service. Highly recommended.
