I'll see it in theaters this Saturday. Looking forward to it!
I expect it to be in the very same vein as Evil Dead 2013 and Rise, both of which dropped all pretenses of being a comedy that the original trilogy still had. I'm totally on board with that, though - no Bruce, no comedy.
Kickboxer 7. Probably the best movie ever made about people kicking each other. You may want to watch Kickboxer1-6 or you might not get the plot. There’s different kicking in this one.
I had no idea there was a remake. I can't see the point of it. The original blew my mind, too, and it is indeed brilliant. I'm not even intrigued by the thought of a remake.
I guess somebody had read about Gulf War Syndrome, and the fact that we were in the middle of a second Gulf War, had the brain fart of "hey, I'll make it topical, and I'll make it real" overlooking the fact that there was almost no way to not also make it crap.
You just can't take a true original, and improve it with a remake (that's not to say there aren't plenty of remakes that far surpass the original they're based on - but in practically every case the original either wasn't that original, or was fundamentally flawed).
This was interesting to me. I had no idea that Electro Harmonix had this big of share of the tube market.
Kickboxer: Retaliation…It features Mike Tyson, The Mountain, Ronaldinho and Christopher Lambert among others. An hour and 50 minutes of people just kicking the **** out of one another. Gets a solid 5 on Imdb, with one critic saying-“it’s worse than all the others”. It also sets up Kickboxer 8- Armageddon, rumored to be so bad as to be unreleasable at this time, probably because the film is thought to be “too cerebral” for most viewers of the series.

Just finished watching the 4th season of Dark Skies. Great series; I am a big fan of Zahn McClarnon, who I first saw in Longmire.
4th season?!
I don't think I knew there was a 3rd.
Very much enjoyed the first two, despite some budgetary limitations.
If you haven't watched it, I highly recommend Reservation Dogs, in which Zahn again plays a Reservation Sheriff.
He was great in season 2 of Fargo.
Right, then. We just finished the 4th season of Slow Horses. Gary Oldman is sublime. He’s lept right over Tom Hardy and Stephen Graham as my personal favorite. The wife and I have both decided to anoint the series as the best thing we’ve seen in years, at least since Peaky Blinders.
That show is fantastic, if a bit depressing.
I don't play out anymore, but I've been settin' aside almost 2 hours a day to keep my chops up. Also been using Youtube and this forum for improvement tips. The economy doesn't feel it will become reasonable again, so I figure I'll keep my skills up in case I gotta start playing again for some foldin' green.
Lately, for those 2 hours, I've been diggin' into vintage films from 50s/60s teen rebel films, obscure 50s/60s beach party movies, and old horror flicks. These are films I'll barely pay attention to while wood-shedding. On occasion I find a gem among the mundane.
Found two worth mentioning that made me stop practicing to actually restart and watch.
Dead of Night (1945) - British film, not a Hammer film. - Anthology of 5 supernatural experiences relayed by guests to an architect at a client's country house. He's introduced to the guests upon arriving, and recognizes them all from his dreams. Well written and kind of a thoughtful film, in my opinion. Some of the supernatural experiences had predictable outcomes, but the well presented stories didn't take away from each ending. I'd say the whole film is Twilight Zone-ish in nature. For folk in the mood for some classic horror with the sensibilities of yesteryear.
Side unimportant note: My wife noticed the architect is played by actor Mervyn Johns. He played Bob Cratchit in our favorite version of A Christmas Carol (1951).:
The Wild Boys (French: Les Garcon Sauvages) 2017 - French film with English subtitles, Surreal, beautifully filmed, unique premise. - 5 boys (all played by actresses) commit a bad crime. They're sent on a boat with a cruel Dutch Captain that plans to tame them. They arrive at a magical island. I'd suggest an adult watch first before showing it to a young person. Will be able to determine that within the first 10 minutes.:

"Forgotten Frontlines: The Nazi Titanic" - the very interesting story of the S.S. Cap Arcona (maiden voyage 10/29/27), a huge and fast German ocean liner later used by the Nazis in various capacities.

Mystery Men is genius film making. I love this movie so much. There are so many subtle little jokes. It's one of William H. Macy's best roles and I'm not being sarcastic.
