I've learned one thing in my recent spat of selling and buying. I will NEVER buy any new commodity music equipment online ever again without making a phone call. I've saved HUNDREDS off of advertised internet prices just by picking up the phone.

As someone who has never knew how to 'haggle' this is all new an enlightening for me. I'll give a pair of recent items. These two are not related to relationships I have crafted with people over time, just cold calls, I intentionally chose a couple of non-bass specific items.

1) Who: Music 123 & Big Time Audio (BTA) in Wis.
What: Heil PR-40 Dynamic Microphone
When: Yesterday
Where: Phone
Why: I wanted it.
How: These are priced $325 everywhere. Turns out it's a Minimum Advertised Pricing (MAP) situation. Authorized dealers can't print less than this. Called Music123 who is a dealer, they didn't have any in stock, but said they could get it to me for $280. I called BTA who I had seen listing them on Ebay (with good ratings). I asked if he could beat MAP pricing (his ebay buy it now btw). He said I could have it shipped for $290. I mentioned the $280 shipped price offered by Music123 and he agreed to it.


2) Who: A few internet dealers ending with Sam Ash
What: Fender Lee Ranaldo Jazzmaster
When: 3 weeks ago
Where: Phone
Why: I wanted it.
How: These are priced $1499 everywhere. Called a few places and got a lot of run around. "What the lowest price you've been offered" -$10 was a common answer, even when I said I didn't want to 'mess around with it". I was reading on the web where someone got one shipped from samash.com for $1200 shipped. I called Sam Ash and said 'someone I know got one for $1200 shipped, can you do that for me too'. He diddled around for a few minutes and agreed.

There were 10 original ones, and a prototype. All of these were in small cases and have bassfuzz.com on them. Sounds like you got the prototype, I sold it and kept #1 after about 6 months and wondering if I really needed both.

So, there was only one prototype? Cool :D

EDIT: Oh, and I was wondering if there was a buffer before the fuzz built into the unit. The only reason I ask is that my 2 chan setup works fine with the signal from a passive ABY. There was a thread a little while ago about someone having their fuzz chan suck the signal from the clean one.

If there is no pre-buffer consider me totally stumped as to how my setup works perfectly without signal loss or ground loops galore :o

Yeah, to say the least, it just doesn't work for me in my band. On its own, for just drums and bass it sounded wicked. Total B15/vintage sound. Lots of gain on tap to get almost as dirty as a muff with sustain cranked. Very cool pedal, but my GGG BMP slayed it.

It does drive the muff over the top well for extra fuzzzzzzz.

I'll have to try that. I did try a boost before the SFT and it really pushed it into some nice OD when the SFT is set fairly clean.
