What's On Your Workbench?

the dual-coil flatwork was assembled into bobbins tonight right after I got a couple fretboard blanks glued onto their necks and into clamps

Birdseye Maple wooden covers are next up in the queue for these while CT is winding the coils

I can squeak by with a 4-1/2" wide blank IF I remember to align on the neck centerline and not the blank centerline, so wider pieces like these just under 5" wide blanks are a luxury thanks to what was available when I went shopping that day. The extra width is a nice feature when working the flip side, giving the blank firm support along the neck shaft while roughing the neck surface, cutting fret and nut slots, and routing the block inlay cavities

It's a total of 20 minutes cutting time to rough away the excess with an end mill, and then detail the rear contour with a ball mill. Definitely a lot faster, and more consistent, than I could shape by hand. And for the CNC naysayers, recognize there's still a TON of handwork remaining once the cnc cutting is complete.

Okay, uncle ... I give up. What am I looking at in this picture? It looks like a negative to me. How, what why is it?

Forgot to add that even looking at the picture above this post doesn't help me :(

Finished (sort of) my first build. Fretless neck-through. Cherry and maple, with a persimmon fretboard.
I say it is sort of finished, because I am waiting for my friend's grnddaughter to come home from collegeto woodburn my name in Japanese into the headstock. Then it will get the same oil treatment as the rest of the bass. THEN it will be done.

So I built the table for my studio, but we need desks (both my wife and I work from home). I had another 2 pieces of that maple, which I had planned on making into instruments of some kind or another. I started looking around at buying desks, the natural top slab desks are so stupidly expensive. I figure I paid about $15 for each piece of this wood, add in a little poly and some legs and I have a desk for about $100. So that became the new plan for desks for our house. Unfortunately I only have enough wood for one desk, we'll have to fight over it. I managed to bookmatch this one - the last one I got lost on which side was which and ended up with a stack instead of a bookmatch.

I figured out the layout of my studio today. Should be moved in by the end of the week. I'm like a kid on Xmas eve, can't wait!
