What's On Your Workbench?

I spaced the width of dots on the 12th and 24th frets as if there were 4 strings, not 6. Now, instead of being between the first and second string, the dot will be underneath the 2nd string.
The dots should be slightly more towards the edge of the fretboard.
Hope that makes sense
Take her advice:

Looking great!

Radiused this big ole ebony 6-string fretboard. Sweaty work in a Colorado early august garage.
Time for a neck carve, never carved a 6 before, hope I get it right.

Have you considered an asymmetric carve? With a wide neck an 'airplane wing' carve (tapered to allow easier left hand access for the higher strings) works nicely.

I have heard of the technique, but I was mostly thinking about copying the neck profile from my cheap LTD 6-string since it's here and I can just measure it.
It may turn out asymmetrical whether I want it to or not

An easy way to think about it would be to initially do as you planned and then add the taper. It doesn't have to be too much and really makes a big difference as far as ease of playing. I'm used it on a couple of 5r's and it's pretty sweet.

here's another modification project that came off my workbench just today.
This is her before:

a Firefox Miniature P-Bass (25.5" scale) from the 80's, made in India which I bought some years ago just for fun. It didn't get much playtime and never saw a stage with me. But it was always fun to play on the couch! I recently was about to sell it but then I picked it up several times again and it was so great to noodle around on it that I decided I'd personalise it so that I cannot ever sell it :-D

So, this is her now

I stripped the body and applied some walnut oil to highlight the grain. I then finished the wood with some Tru Oil. The pickguard is crudely cut with a bandsaw (by reference to the original), but I decided to install a metal control plate I had lying around. I also hated the look of those P-style pickups, they appeared to be totally oversized for the tiny body, so I put some Mustang style pickups in there. And I converted it to string through body.

Oh yea, and then I attached that sticker. To remind us that even the smallest of all basses is able to deliver some big, round, juicy bottom end :woot::bassist:

Frankly tb has female members and although you feel it reminds "us" (of anything) it may prove offensive to some members. Just sayin...

I'm typically whatever floats your canoe and pro stickers, but that sticker is a tacky addition to an otherwise wonderful bass.

Then I better take it off there before I feel the rage.

My 11 year old daughter loved the vintage vibe of your bass, but said "Hasn't he heard of 'me too'? Times are changing." :D She was pleased it was removed, lol. You think that's tough? I have to live with her...

First, your bass looks awesome, and you clearly took the time to give it some love. :) Second, this is a great little community here and people give honest, respectful, and helpful feedback. Third, I hope I speak for others when I say, you are totally welcome and respected here, and I for one would love to have you here as a regular contributor, especially with cool basses like this...

@M-rek here's another endorsement - she was just looking at it again right now, and while chatting I explained it was a super short scale bass (like her short scale guitars) and she excitedly realized it would be well-sized for her, and said "can you make me one just like it? I want the same colour, pickguard and size - it's soooo cool!" :D
