Is the weight of the motor enough to offset the lathe? I'd be worried about tippage...

yeah, I'm kinda worried about that as well. I may have to put outriggers on the bottom. I'll see what it feels like when it's all together. I specifically mounted the motor low to counter balance. I'll report back after I get everything mounted. It's a very heavy table and doesn't feel top heavy at all, but it's hard to say exactly when the lathe isn't mounted, I can't do any "test pushes".

Knotty, wormholey Streamer-style thing from 160 year old pine. I'm going to carve the top and back, I have an '87 NT Streamer to take measurements from.

I know which song, but "The long and winding road" would also be appropriate in this case
I put outriggers on the bottom, it's much more stable, I think it was ok before, definitely ok now. I probably could have made them longer, but this is the wood I had cut.
The motor mount was kind if wonky and sure enough the screws stripped out as I was getting the belt mounted. I guess it's good that happened then. I need to get longer screws and a tap tomorrow, but I'm close!

Not quite on the bench but took up a lot of my time. Heading out the door on Sunday.
I got the motor mounted. It spun up fine with no vibrations, I connected the belt and the lathe spun fine. I cut a square stick of walnut and figured I'd test the tail piece. I plugged in the lathe, it ran for about 30 seconds, then quit. I smelled a slight electrical burning smell after unplugging it. I checked the brushes (just because it was easy) and they both looked good, I cleaned them off, but still it won't spin, even after taking the belt off it. I don't like the electrical terminations on this motor and the internal wiring is cloth covered, so rather than mess with it I decided I'd just order a new one off Amazon for $83, assuming all goes well I'll still have under $150 into it.
Can you turn the shaft with pliers?

hmm, I'll check that. IIRC it spins fine by hand, but now I can't remember if I did that before or after it stopped working.
A custom pickguard and preamp install on an Ibanez GSR205. This is just a super rough mock-up. It’ll look sweet, but I’d forgotten what an absolute pain in the a$$ it is making a pick guard with hand tools.

A friend of mine said he had a motor I could have, I canceled the Amazon order and headed over there this morning. He's a tinkerer and asked me to bring my broken motor, he wanted to see what was wrong with it. As I pulled it out of the car at his house I saw that the AC cord was almost completely cut off. I was messing around with the mounting of the motor a lot and apparently at some point the cord got caught under the metal mount.
I put a new cord on and it works great. I turned my first stick.
Now I need to take the lathe off the top and poly the table.

I'll take one more pic once I get the lathe mounted up, but I did a couple of coats of poly on the table. I left it rough hewn as I think it goes well with the 1959 vibe, but also because I hate working with hickory, let's pretend it's for the former reason though.
