i'm often surprised how old everyone is here 
Might have been Crush by Jennifer Paige (which I technically played on guitar since I didn't have a bass at that time).
Most of my early stuff was Iron Maiden, though. I think The Trooper was the first thing I learned on bass.

The melody to Yesterday, on my brother's mid '60s Hofner bass. I should have kept learning melodies instead of just bass lines, but that ship sailed a long time ago.

I had very diverse tastes in music, still do. I was working on these at the same time. Followed by:

No worries—I'm often surprised by how old I am, too.

As an audition to my 8th grade jazz band. I had only been playing for 6 months. Our music teacher (who was a VERY difficult and demanding guy) made the group give me a standing ovation. He had laughed in my face when I signed up when I said I had been playing for 6th months. He fully ate a little crow and I'll never forget it. I am 38 now and the memory is vivid. I couldn't read sheet music well at all. But I sat down and transcribed it slowly into tableture so I could figure it out.
I also auditioned "my boyfriends back" and performed both. I should try to scrounge up that VHS haha....

Mars from the Planets by Gustov Holtz. The only other songs that were in 5/4 were Take Five by Dave Brubeck, and Mission Impossible by Milo (or was it LILO? It's been a while) Shiffron (pardon the spelling). Those were the first bass parts I learned.
