I'd say it's so thick you could cut it with a knife, but a knife is a weapon and then I'd be the next victim.
I cannot speak to the attitudes within your society, I know that the US is falling back into becoming a welfare state where personal responsibility has no meaning. Soccer kids get trophies not for winning but for just showing up, welfare people get free cell phones and corporal punishment is something found on black and white TV....

This hot fudge sundae I'm eating is yummy. If only it had a cherry on top though. Hey, do you mind if I can have that cherry you just picked there?![]()

"Holier-than-though", "polite gentle approach".
If that's what you guys think of people who think it isn't ok to give children a "good beating" or pull a gun on smart ass kids. I think you need to reevaluate your moral standings.
So you guys are telling me that you'd be perfectly fine if you found out that your child had been a smart ass and that the victim of their asshattery beat them in a car park or pulled a gun, that'd be just fine and dandy?
The "playing the game is its own reward" (or "just showing up" as you put it) mentality is more healthy than the traditional competitive sports mentality. I'm not saying that I always agree, but I think that comparison was pretty clear from his post![]()

Disagree 100%.
If you get a trophy just for showing up, where is the motivation to do your best and win? If you're given handouts from day one just for showing up, what's to say that mentality won't continue as they grow?
