What's wrong with schecter basses??

I just wish they had a 3-band EQ and a real tool-free battery clip on all of them. The only model they have that actually combines the two is the Damien Elite. That's ridiculous, considering how many models they have.
Also, I wish they'd promote the C style bass shape (Damien, C-4/5, Hellraiser, Omen, etc.) rather than the Stiletto shape, which seems to be their bread and butter. The Stiletto shape looks great in pictures but mated to a 35" neck, the balance is off on a strap.
I love their stuff, though.

Nothing is wrong with them if you like them. They are import, but well made. There is no sin in that.
Now there's a name I haven't heard in ages. I had a few friends who worked at the old Van Nuys plant back in the day. Visited there a couple of times myself. They made great instruments back then. Even heard Tom Anderson's band play once or twice. They did a wicked version of Steely Dan's Black Friday. At least, I think it was his band. It was a long time ago.

cool bass - wish the player didn't get so excited when he plays, someone's gonna get hurt.
I grabbed one off the wall @ Sam Ash and I couldn't believe how fast the neck was. I think it was a Stiletto, in that weird off-white natural color of theirs. I'm a Fender guy, but that neck has always stuck in my head. Went to GC the other day hoping to play some Schecters and other "modern" neck basses, but they didn't have much to work with. On the fence about taking a plunge on a Nikki Sixx.
Ahh, the laws of probability. I am Canadian. Born and raised in Etobicoke, which is pretty much the seat of power for Ontario. I have lived in four different provinces, including the one that you call home.
I live in the US, but Buffalo is a border town. Not only am I familiar with your politics, I went to High School with Robbie Ford. He was a hell of a linebacker, btw.
As for jobs, job market and domestic economy, I am Managing Director of a firm that employs roughly one hundred, about 10% of which commute from Ontario daily. A reasonable percentage of my business is with Canadian firms, causing me to visit Toronto at least monthly.
Being Canadian doesn't make you innately superior to those you perceive as US citizens.
as awilkie84 said, try the HZs first. i had the preamp pulled out of my stiletto elite-5 and it's run full passive. sounds pretty good to my ears. also, the HZs are passive versions of the CS pickups, so the difference in sound might not be as drastic as you hope.
Honestly, I think the main reason that some bassists are turned off by Schecter is because they don't look like Fenders. 
Seriously, some of their stuff is beautiful. Some, not so much. They come stock with decent hardware, and the models with EMG installed sound fantastic. I don't like the super tight string spacing on the 5 and 6 string models. Otherwise, good little basses.

I remember getting the same impression from one of those C4 bass with the stripper-silhouette fretboard inlays when I was a teenager. It played great.

I had a Schecter C5. 35" scale 5 string bass 24 fret neck. It had nice low action. It was very light. It looked really pretty.
The down sides ... I hated the emg pickups and I hated the 2 band preamp so it got sold. It did not sound good with a band.

Fair enough. I'll give it a go when I finally get it. First up though is a Conklin GT7 I've been GASSING for
They are fine. Not crazy about the headstock, but have gotten a solid sound from them when I've played them.
When I wanted a starter 5er, I wandered into a large-ish Guitar Center and tried every 5er on the wall. The Stiletto Elite 5 was about $600, and for my style of playing, felt and sounded better than anything else under $1500, including the Ibbies and Yammies. I ultimately found the 16.5 mm string spacing too tight, but it's a damned good bass.
I had an Elite 5 with the Hz pickups and thought it was a great bass . I don't like EMG pickups in general because they never gave me much in the way of dynamics but the Hz pickups worked very well and changed my mind some . The Elite had a narrow neck but that was no problem for me , I really liked that bass and think Schecters are very good basses .
The new session series seems awesome to me. Wanting to play one bad. Love the looks of them and they're loaded with EMG stuff for a nice price.
I currently own two Omen 5, which I absolutely love. Nothing worng with these basses, maybe they're not for everybody, but that doens't mean they suck, quite the contrary.
I love Schecters. They were making Fenders better than Fender in the 80's and even now. I have 5 USA made custom shop Schecter basses. Never found better one's. Wonderful passive Precision and Jazz basses.
