What's Your Bass/Guitar's Name?

I just call them by their makers name or by color. My Dingwall ABZ is my Dingwall, my Fender P is Orange, T-40, etc... I think naming them like a pet or calling them 'she' is weird, creepy, and sexist.

Sexist? My aren't we sensitive. By the way, most non living objects are given female names like ships (except in the US), aircraft, etc. I don't really see how it puts women down in any way. Unless of course you call you bass bi***.

I never called my bass guitars any other name but the company name or makes it. My guitars though is another subject. My Strat is Jennifer as every Jennifer I ever met was beautiful. Chick names for low end instruments just did not sit with me.

I call my '68 Frankenbass (mostly a P-bass) "The Babe." Not sure why.

I call a cheapo Ibby bass that I repainted all crazy and nailed random stuff on it "The Silly Bass." I'm not sure why.

I call my Warwick Thumb "the Warwick." Not sure why I call it that.

I call my Dean 8-string bass "the 8-string Bass." Not sure why.

I call my Rogue fretless bass "the Fretless Bass." Not sure why.

I call my Danelectro hollow body bass "The Danelectro Bass." Not sure why.

I call my barely functioning, POS Ibby bass "That piece of crap." I think I know why I call it that.

My Spector NS is named Spector.
My Yamaha RBX765A is named Yamaha.
My Atkinson P-bass is named Atkinson.
My LTD B-206 is named LTD.

Talk about a buzz kill.

Fender Precision: "the P"

My SX fretless is named Freddy
My former SX P bass w/Squier VM fretless neck was named Gilbert by the girl who's been borrowing and learning on him for the last years.
My VM fretless J has no name.
My upright is named Baby because I keep her in the corner and there's nothing Patrick Swayze can do about it anymore.
My Gibson Les Paul is named John because the case has dire effects on any band whose sticker graces it, so the case is named Yoko, and you can put the pieces together why John goes in Yoko, so I won't elaborate. (In light of new announcements by Sir Paul this guitar may need renamed)

I've revamped my stable and my basses are now fairly new so they don't have names yet. For me, I really think you have to get a sense of the thing and it's own personality and then a name will simply present itself.

It's the same method I use with pets and why my dogs are named Bitey, Humpy and Diarrhea.

Just sprayed my screen with coffee!!

My Squier P is named Sheila just because I thought it fit, my Applause acoustic bass is named Diana after my dad's friend who gave me the bass's wife, and my girlfriend named my Epi Thunderbird "The Rocket." I like it.

Just like her its not the prettiest but it does what it does really really well.

I've owned many basses over the past 30 years, but I only gave three of them names...

1. Jackson Custom Shop Concert Bass in Ferrari red = "Christine", (no longer with me).

2. Spector Euro in white = "Phil", jokingly named after Phil Spector (yes, I know, no relation to/affiliation with Stuart Spector) because it is a killer.

3. USA Spector NS-4 in blue = "Sweet Revenge", because of it's uncanny resemblance to the blue NS-4 in Spector's "revenge" bass poster.

I'm not really into naming inanimate objects, but I did nickname my first Fender MIA Jazz Bass "The Bludgeon" (the red one in my avatar, on top). Could do some real damage with that thing.

Anyway..... i don't know why, but i seem to "recognize" if one of my instruments is male or female ! .....

"Alfa" is a female bass, and "Beta" and "Max" are male ....
"Margherita" is a female violin, and "Bruno" a male......

The pbass named "Lupin".... i've always been unsure .......
