would have to check, but I'm actually pretty sure it was Sir Paul doing the drums on most of Abbey Road... as the band was not getting on well during recording and Paul ended up playing most of the parts on that record... I could be wrong, but I'm 90% sure...

Speaking of Bernard Purdue, I read an interview with him years ago in which he claimed his drumming appears on two Beatles tracks, but he refused to say which ones. Anyone else ever heard that?

Oh! --So many! Well, Bill Lordan is a friend of mine...before he played with Robbin Trower...and before he played with Sly and the Family Sone....he played with Gypsy...the Drum solo starts at about 3:00 Minutes in. You don't hear this every day.

We have a winner, well at least for kid in 8th grade at the Minneapolis Armory in 1968, in about the 5th row surrounded by Hells Angels. A total rush.

That's exactly what first came to my mind as well. Rippin. That whole song is awesome. You'd think. 17 min long song would get boring. But this song never got boring to me. Epic.

I also am a huge fan of bill ward from sabbath. He's not really known for his solos, but he is the master of tasteful and effective filling imo.

Michael Shrieve ... Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock

So tightly integrated into the fabric of the song your not aware it's a "solo" ... as it should be, for my taste.

Extra points for the classic P-bass and Acoustic 360 !

My fave Santana number Shrieve was only 17yo when they played Woodstock!

There's a mashup off Ringo's solo in The End extended with the drum solo from In A Gadda Da Vida. Something like this only with the original recordings. It works.
