My favorite gauges on my Rick 4002 were Progressives 45-60-80-105, and if I ever have another edgier gig, they will go right back on. My other favorite set was the Fender flats CL in the same gauges, which Fender discontinued.

I have a bunch of basses, so it varies from bass to bass. Lightest at the moment are the 40-95 Rick Light Nickel Rounds on the 4003 (to makes it sound different from the 4001, with 50-105 Hybrid Slinkys); heaviest are the 65-135 La Bella Tapes on the BEAD-tuned Carvin. Mostly, though, they're 45-105s of one sort or another. I usually start with Hybrid Slinkys on a new bass. If that's not the sound I want from that particular bass, I move on from there. Those, and 45-105 La Bella flats seem to constitute the majority.:)

As usual, poll answers are inadequate. I play the greatest bass strings of the past four decades - Labella Deep Takin' Flats. I like the light gauge .043 - .104, Stainless Steel Flat Wound, 760FL.

Like Pilgrim I also like the La Bella Deep Talkin' Flats, but I prefer them in their 760FM size - .045 .065 .085 .105. They sound and play great on a P-Bass.

None of the above for my J-bass, which sports 30-90 GHS Boomers most of the time. Allows me to play with a light touch which works well at church, and also lets me dig in without too much trouble when playing elsewhere. Switched to 40-100 Roto 77's on that bass for a while. Meanwhile I like medium gauge 45-105 strings on my P-basses whether using rounds or flats.
