What's your guitar rig like?

I haven’t touched my guitars since I picked up the bass a few years ago but what I have left and keeping are as follows.

Guitars = 20th anniversary McCarty & 2011 LP Traditional Pro (with mods)

Amp = Mesa Boogie Rectoverb 25. I just sold my 77-80 Deluxe Reverb.

Pedals = to many to list

Silvertone 1417 guitar with mystery switch and Silvertone 1431 from 1959…the only electric guitar and amp I still own. 5 screaming watts into an 8” Jensen. Cost me $20 at a tag sale for the both.

Warmoth 7/8 is a bit misleading... I suspect that the body is scaled down 7/8 (0.825) but on the business end it's actually 47/50 (0.941) using 24" as the scale length (Mustang scale length!) But it's a great way to have a 24-fret 'strat' in a shorter scale

oh awesome! I like that scale. Had a duo-sonic 24” and it was great. You can bend to the moon

I'll be working up a demo or two as soon as the new delay widget is a bit more developed. I have a DIY tube amp on the way too, and might make the 8" cab powered eventually. I use to gig doubling on electric guitar pretty regularly twenty years or so ago, and often at least had someone else's acoustic kicking around wherever I lived over the years. But I'm presently porting away from bass and going all in on guitar and also this mutant:

The Dojo has a piezo pickup in the resonator and a humbucker at the neck. I mostly tune it to Open E, so it's very easy for guitar players to pick up and understand, and it's also fun with a slide. With this new pedal bringing up the piezo blend works kind of like a 'verb/chorus effect. Still working on different dedicated pedals, here's the second prototype:

I have a modded blonde Fender Noventa Telecaster, which is kind of an Esquire with a P90 in it. I mostly play it through the Mustang Micro headphone amp, but I also play it through my Ampeg PF-50t / PF-115HE fliptop. Both sound great.

Maybe one day I'll get a tweed champ to complete the vibe. Honestly, tho, I could play this way forever.

Squier Esquire. A truly alarming shade of green; pretty sure Fender discontinued it. Little Marshall to take to singer/songwriter events. I'm the only one playing electric guitar. I'm pretty terrible, but it's great after 6 or 7 introverts to play some rock'n'roll.

Honestly I still prefer a silverface Fender Twin Reverb or a Marshall #1959 Plexi head into the #1960 4x12 cab over any rig I've ever played through...I still kick myself for selling my Twin in 1978 because I needed cash, and I never actually owned a Marshall, just borrowed or rented those. So when I have the luxury of choice -- and roadies with a strong back -- those are my go-to amps. But that's pretty infrequent.

What I've actually been using most of the time for the past few years (decades?) is a Polytone MiniBrute III combo amp. For more-or-less straight-ahead jazz gigs or traditional musical theater pit gigs I use it by itself; for more modern fare I use it in conjunction with a Line6 POD Pro or, at the very least, a Tech21 SansAmp GT2. On some occassions I replace the Polytone with an Acoustic Image Focus head into a Flite Sound 1x12 cabinet loaded with a vintage Altec-Lansing driver.

The blue Yamaha at the top self-destructed a while back after ~35 years of hard use; I salvaged the pickups and am in the process of installing them in a Warmoth all-padauk Telecaster. The Vox Phantom I gave away to a friend who has a Vox fetish and who knows a guy who specializes in vintage Vox restorations, so it's now living a resurrected life with someone who appreciates it far more than I ever did. And I got a new acoustic guitar a little over a year ago, a Yamaha A3M, not pictured.

For me, the same 1990 Rickenbacker 330 that I bought new in 1991, into my pedalboard, and out to my early 2000s Mesa F-50 and Walkabout Scout 12 combos. The F-50 is a rare, early narrow chassis model (traditional "Boogie" size), of which only about 400 were made, according to Mesa. I put 12AU7s in V1 & V2, Groove Tubes KT66HPs in V5 & V6, and a Mesa/Celestion Vintage 30 driver in place of the stock Mesa/Celestion Black Shadow 90.

A lot of us also play guitar as well as bass, so just for fun, thought it would be interesting to hear what gear us talkbass guitarists prefer for our guitar rigs right now.

What gear do you prefer these days? Has it changed a lot over time? Do you use it live or just at home? Are you a pedal person? Modeling? Tube amps? Plugins? Acoustic? Gassing for anything?

I'll start:

Headless guitars and single coil pickups are my jam. Right now, main squeeze is an Ibanez ICHI10, the Ichika Nito signature model. It's basically a headless, 5lb strat. Really happy with it!

In the last few months I've transitioned from tube amps and pedals to a Fender Tone Master Pro modeler. Still love tube amps and pedals! But the all-in-one is so flexible and convenient, and it sounds great. Also love the organizational aspects. Being able to organize patches into songs and set lists is really practical for gigging.

For monitoring, the TMP output is routed to a QSC CP12 wedge. Sounds pretty good to me. Would love to try out a FR/FR that's designed specifically for guitar, just to hear the difference.

Fender Strat, Tele and Broadcaster. A Fender Blues junior amp and a Spark amp. The Blues Junior has a bunch of Bill M mods. And a dozen nice acoustics.

I started out as a guitar player long ago, but currently only have a Fender Stratocaster XII 12-string (MIJ) and a Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus combo amp, plus a Yamaha acoustic abandoned by my kid. The Strat is my songwriting vehicle, so to speak, especially with the new BOSS Katana:Go headphone amp. The JC has been part of my bass rig as well, because of the clean stereo chorus effect.
