For me, the Pedulla Buzz is still the absolute zenith of fretless bass design. I've only played one once, at concert volume through a brilliant EA rig. I was blown away. Now, I'm getting to a position where I'm ready to commit the cash to a high end bass again and my playing is better than ever.

Well, I said I would do it and I did. I put a payment down for a Peacock Blue Pentabuzz this afternoon. Just got to sort out the shipping now!

For a semi-hollow, consider a DiPinto Belvedere, especially since you're in South Jersey and could visit the company shop in Philly. Chris D. has moved all production to the U.S., and I don't think basses are being made yet, but he might have some NOS Korean-made ones still available, or at least know where you could find one. I'm not sure, but the shop usually has some interesting stuff regardless.

I'm in the same boat for buying a new bass. I want a G&L L-2500, but my current band plays only a couple of gigs a year, so unless that changes or I join another band, it's hard to justify a new bass. (Last year I was in a band that would have fit the bill, but it folded after only three shows.) If I see a used L-2500 with my desired specs at a good price I might pounce, but a new custom order is out of the question for now.

Well I lied. I just ordered a Sire P7 fretless 5 in Ash / Maple Tobacco Sunburst. The Frog will have to wait.

Since I only play under 25" scale basses, whenever I run across one that's different than I already have, I go for it. Yesterday I was cruising the internet and came across this original style Gibson Thunderbird 23" scale travel bass with poly strings that fits my bass uke parameters, so I bought it. I'm adding a Thunderbird decal, Road Toad black Pahoehoe strings, white thumb rest, truss rod cover and knobs. Going to call it a Thunderlele.

Thanks, that's a good point. A friend of mine is a photographer and he shoots for a lot of bands in the Philly area, including a couple of Chris DiPinto's, and he suggested a while ago that if I'm looking for a bass I should check his out. But I rarely see any mention of his instruments here and so the name just wasn't on my radar. I'll check out his website when I get home tonight.

I definitely got lucky with my L-2500. Got it at a great price, it has a few customized options (factory-installed K-mod, markerless fingerboard, and matching cherryburst headstock), and because the previous owner lives so close to where my son goes to college in the DC area I was able to buy it in person while I was already down there anyway and avoid shipping costs and risks.

I can't say what the next bass I will purchase will be. I have a very good working stable and my list is GAS/treasure hunting.
I did just finish up modding an Ibanez RB630 that I wasn't playing (but was too good of a player to sell) into a virtual Peavey T45. It's sonically a whole new bass to my collection vs another flavor of P.

Vintage Warwick thumb currently being saved for...really really special one...words cant describe my excitement...then I'll have two thumbs and the world will be ok lol. BUt with my really new thumb BO and an vintage NT it'll be pure thumb heaven!

Sometimes an unexpected opportunity comes along and you just have to go for it.

Arriving tomorrow - a Gibson SB-300. Last thing I ever thought I'd be buying. Mainly because I never thought I'd find one in decent enough condition to be worth buying.
