What kind of Cab for a standalone on a small Rig???

I'd go the 2x10 myself, and like timbre can say that the SWR 350/Goliath Jr III combo is a particularly good one. I have this teamed with an SWR Triad, giving me a good range of tonality and portability options with only 2 cabs.

Must say, I'm interested in the number of people voting for 12" here. Didn't honestly think they'd be that popular.

I alternate between (2) cabs-each a 1x12:
A Genz-Benz 12T w/ a tweeter-
Very agressive punchy, SLICES thru the mix and gives off good vibrations.
Wanna take it down a bit? Lower the lights and play
some jazz, maybe?
Then I use my FLITE 1x12 with an Eminence and a 5" attenuated driver, for a richer less dominant tone-more round and dark-Very nicely colored; weighs 26 lbs- BUT- BE WARNED- I highly recommend FLITE, but they must be babied, as the honeycomb composite construction sacrifices durability & strength for light weight.

BTW, I cheated a bit here- I power both cabs with the G-K MB-150S, which has it's own 12.
So I am using a very light, very portable 2x12
rig which gives me a full 150 watts @ 4 ohms-
G-K punch; unbelievable how this unit can rock the walls if needed.

This may be pushing it a little calling this a "small rig" because I use 3 cabinets. But each one can be easily picked up and carried with one hand so it is my Small and portable rig.

What kind of gigs are you playing with these "small" rigs?

For a small rig I use the Ashdown ABM C110-300 and that is overkill for most small gigs. For big stuff I use an Epifani 2x12 powered by a bridged Carver PM-1.5 with an Aguilar DB 659. I don't feel the need to add an additional 2x12, although it would be fun to go lots louder, I jut don't have to!

I'd have to say that my Carvin PB-200 is an incredible small rig. It doesn't way too much, it's relatively small, and it's louder than my friends' bass amps, and they all spent about $100-300 more than I did. And, my amp sounds great too. All of the controls you need. It even has a built in Noise Gate and a built in Compressor. Plus Graphic an Panaramic EQ. The thing is a God-send and totally worth the money.

I do just fine at the smaller gigs (lounge/resautrant/bar/coffehouse) with a Eden 2-10XLT and a GK 1001rb. More than enough bottom, mids, and highs, and tons of headroom.

For the real tiny gigs, I bring my practice cab -a SWR Workingman's 1-10" w/ horn cab. I know that I'm over powering the 8 ohm cab, but it works and I haven't blown the cab yet.

For low volume gigs I use a 1x12.

For low to medium I use a 2X10.

When in doubt of the room size or how loud the other players are, I bring the 2x10.

If I know it's a big room or the players are loud, I bring the 4x10 but I didn't mention it earlier because the subject is 'small rig'
