I think I may prefer my Eden WT-400 over all these new ultra lightweight heads. Can't be absolutely sure yet, but it's just fun to say it. So there! :p:p:p;)

M. M.

That WT-400 won't put out the oomph of your SA450, but will be warmer and fatter and less 'transparent' (i.e., more 'peaks and valleys' in the tone, especially in the mid to upper mids to my ear), which for some tone goals is not a bad thing. I used a WT400 for quite a few years, great head, and if I wanted a bit of tube in my tone, I prefer that head over the 6.0 at this point. I like the WT405 even better... kind of in-between the LMII/SA450 and WT400/550 to my ear... quick and tight like the SA450/LMII, but a touch warmer and fatter.

Had their been a link; "Haven't tried or heard yet", I would've checked that.

They're hard to find in L.A. I like clean power and don't mind tubes, but don't like a lot of EQ...

Wait, you're in TO?

Yeah, I went down to the local GC and they didn't carry GB stuff. Didn't see any in Instrumental Music either. So I ordered one online, without hearing it first.

I got the 3.0-8T combo, and with the little speaker, it sounds great for home playing and even for using it in church! Placing the amp on the ground seems to make all the difference.

I haven't tried it out with my 8x8 cab yet, but I plan to soon. I'll spend the weekend A/B/C testing it through all my different cabs.

The eq took a little time to tweak - small movements make big changes. And for some reason I have to peg the input gain to max and I still don't get the input light to come on unless I boost the active electronics on my bass. That's a bit odd, but I'm chalking it up to a cheap cable and old battery at this point.

My favorite thing about the Shuttle was the weight. It's nice not to have to lug a heavy amp to every small gig I play.

The combo is nice too b/c of it's size. I can take it to a quiet practice, and still get very good tone. Compared to cheap little practice amps, this thing kills. It's also very nice to be able to throw the bass and amp in the front seat of the car, and head out the door without needing to rent a u-haul to get my rig there. ;)

I didn't really A/B test this against the LMII though. I tried out a MB combo with 2 6" (I think) speakers when GC first got them in, and thought it was decent, but it cost a bit more than the Shuttle combo I ended up with. And what I like about the Shuttle combo is that the head unit slides out and can be used alone - so you don't need to "lug" (haha, it's so small, I'd probably bring the whole thing anyways!) the whole combo around if you want to use the amp to power another cab instead.

I haven't put this amp to the real gigging test yet, but plan to for my August gigs. until then it will be relegated to weekly church duties and band practices. (my other amps will take a sabbatical I guess!) :D

See, that's your problem... you have two 1-10s and a 300w amp. If you had two 1-12s and a 600w amp you'd be much happier.

Don't blame the gear brother. Don't blame the gear.

So your saying that my Genz Benz produce.
A 300 watt head
And two 1x10 cabs.

Will not do a small to medium gig.
So why does Genz Benz sell them?

And now 600 watts is the norm to gig with?

Or maybe the 3.0 is not producing true 300 watts?

Depends on the gig and the tone you are going for. A jazz gig with an acoustic piano... that rig will be perfect. A small club with a mid-oriented fingerstyle tone and folk type music... perfect.

A moderate sized room with a bass tone that has lots of low end and/or aggressive slapping or picking... not so much.

Also, the wattage is usually not the limitation, it's the size and SPL of a cab. That head with an efficient 4ohm 410 or 212 or 2 x 112's would be enough to do a LOT of different types and sizes of gigs. However, with a very small 110 cab (or two), there's just so much air it can push.

It's all about getting the right tool for the right job. For my personal tone, 2 x110 never really did it for me no matter how many watts (even in small rooms), since I like a full low end, and I do use slap style on occasion. For a buddy of mine who has a very mid oriented tone and plays very close to the bridge, he can get away with a smaller box and/or less power since his tone doesn't have much low end in it.

Hope that makes sense. That's a nice little rig you have there, but it will only do so much. If you are running out of volume and low end, IMO a larger cab or cabs will fix the issue most likely.... 300 watts is plenty for small to moderate and even larger gigs IME.

Well, GB sells them to meet the different needs of different players. As Ken rightly said for some applications 2 110s would be fine, but if you're playing rock with a drummer I think you'd be much better off with 2 12s or possibly one 1-12, if its the right 1-12.

Maybe you could return your cabs and swap them for 1-12s?

Hope it works out for you. :)

As a point of note, the knob positions have very little to do with maximum potential output volume, thus the relative positions are highly arbitrary between units. The only way to correctly compare the available maximum volume of two amplifiers is to crank up each amplifier's master volume to the point where the power section clips/limits.

Yes, thank you!!!

This applies to all amps by all manufacturers... knob position and control taper is a matter of choice and feel. It has no relation whatsoever to the power an amp delivers. A 10 watt amp has the same knob rotation as a 1000 watt amp ;)

Depends on the gig, the stage volume, music style, playing style... and most of the more professional gigs have PA support too, so the amp is only needed for stage sound and it may be plenty adequate for most of these types of gigs.

As I've said before, I wonder if there's something wrong. I've used the same setup for decent volume blues gigs in medium sized rooms with no problems. The ministack may just not be your cup of tea, but it could be that there's an issue with yours.

I own a 3.0T combo, with 1x10 extension cab.
So, I'm playing through two 1x10 cabs.

I've not played the 6.0. ( I've hear great things)

I bought the 3.0 because I only needed 300 watts.

But the tone, and total volume of my rig.
Is not to my liking.

And at a $1200.00 investment.
I'm not a happy camper?

$1,200 well spent in my case-

I have the shuttle 3.0 too, and a live series genz benz 15" cab (which I rarely need to use),
I love the tone, after I have tweaked it, it is clear and honest. It puts out a tremendous amount of volume for it's size. Also, the DI is great.

I even use this amp with my double bass (with radically different settings) and it is more than adequate for jazz combo gigs without the 15".

I particularly love the look on the faces of musicians I have never worked with before, when they hear what this miniature amp can do.

Sorry if I missed this elsewhere, but which 110 cabinets are you using? My Epi UL 110's are loud as hell! The first time I used a pair of them at a loud band rehearsal, the volume---and especially bass---they produced was startling! It sounded amazingly like my UL 410!

The 410 certainly has much more headroom, but IME, a pair of Epi 110's are capable of producing lots of sound in a medium-sized room.

Cordially,
Greg

Well for my take, I was searching for my "first" head/cab configuration (actually my first bass amp period) after having played through whatever junk combo the various churches had and had no clue what I was looking for. I must've played through 20 or 30 different arrangements and 5-6 different stores. Wasn't sure what I was looking for, nor even WHAT to look for. I do remember one thing from that 2-3 week period - the GB 6.0 Shuttle through an Aguilar 2x10. I'm not the best bass player in the world, but that rig was memorable. Not sure what else to say other than it made my bass feel ALIVE.

Unfortunately I was unable to spend the cash on that dream rig and bought a 2x10 combo that is only barely adequate and frustrating to use.

I won't make that mistake again.

Currently saving the cash to make my shuttle move.

My $0.02.

I have had my 6.0 for close to a year now and i think its still pretty wonderful. I either pair it with a 4 ohm Eden 410XLT or a pair of 8 ohm Eden 210's. I play a Stingray and boost the low end and mids a bit and leave all the eq buttons off. I have had this amp smokin loud for many hours at a time and it cuts through like nobody's business.

For me the tone is very snarly and growly but of course I am using notoriously growly, efficient and loud cabs. The Stingray's tone doesn't hurt either.

My "big rig" is still my Navigator/QSC setup which sounds not surprisingly "bigger", more complex and rich. But the Shuttle has proven itself in my bands loud jam space and the guys commented repeatedly at how easily they could hear me when using this tiny wonder.

Weather the tone is to your taste or not is one thing, but i think we can all agree that the Shuttle 6.0 is good value for the money, and a crazy good amp for its tiny little footprint. Its perfectly useable in the real world any "flaws" that it may have are really more if a user preference thing.

One man's "tubey goodness" is another mans "dirty mush"! :)
