When Does Your Summer End?

I spend nine years of my life in Calgary. Summers are too short, mostly due to the high elevation. Calgary sits at 4,000 feet above sea level. August can see evening temperatures really drop.

Our kids are mid twenties adults now, so school isn't a factor. In many parts of Europe, August is the holiday month. Many businesses close for a part or all of the month. It can very frustrating to drive into the city to go to a music store and read a sign that says, "Closed for the holidays. Back on the 19th". Once September starts, all he'll breaks loose at work, with planning for the next year, budgets, blah blah blah.

For me personally, summer ends on August 18th. With my doctors blessing, I go back to work for the first time since December 20, 2012.

I know where Calgary is. One summer I hope to drive from Winnipeg to Vancouver!
Winnipeg to Calgary is meh...., Calgary to Vancouver is another story. You hit the mountains about 60 miles West, and then it's postcard scenery all the way to Vancouver. You might want to consider taking the ferry from Vancouver to Vancouver Island - then you can hit Victoria, Nanaimo, Campbell River. If you go West from Parksville, it's a beautiful drive to the towns of Ucluelet and Tofino (8 miles apart on Long Beach) on the West side of Vancouver Island. Done both the Vancouver and Vancouver Island road trips many times.

You mean west from Parksville :)

I'm back on the regular teaching schedule after Labor Day. Kids will be headed to school (two in college, two in public school) the week prior. I've had summer classes, two of them, but both online, so it's not the same as a regular campus schedule. The summer term runs right to the end of August anyway.
I have never understood the going back to school before Labour Day thing. We always went back the first Tuesday of September.
