When you play with a pick, what kind do you use?

"pick?"

I'm glad I don't get asked to do that much.
I greatly prefer fingerstyle, and, I'm not really very good with a pick.
I guess my pref would be for "one of those sorta stiff, fat, felt ones," as that's sort of one tone I can't get with my fingers.
Well...I guess I can get that via palm muting, really.
So.
Not sure why I need a pick, really.

ymmv.

Every time you post something, I think you're up to something, but it's just that mischievous grin of yours. Yeah mega mega volutes?

I know the type of pick doesn't make much of a difference

I do think it can change the tone, not the brand but the material it is made out of. I don't use a pick much for bass, but for guitar or those few times in the past I did use pick on bass I always used Dunlop Nylon, usually one of the shades of grey, they were about the right thickness for me.
Dunlop USA Nylon picks
1. They have molded grips.
2. They don't wear down/shread into powder like plastic picks do.
3. They don't sound as bright and harsh as plastic picks do.

Dang and to think when I used picks back in the 60's I could choose between Fender and Gibson picks and that was about it. I had a drummer harp on me to play finger style and that's what I've done since. Recently bought some picks for my guitar and also bought some Fender mediums to try on my bass for some songs. We sure have a LOT more choices now.

When I need the feel and tone of a pick, my preference is...

2mm Dunlop Gator picks.

Love 'em.

I really don't have a brand preference, but I like it in the realm of medium gauge for a bit of flex. I've also been known to use plastic finger picks.

I only use picks maybe 10% of the time though right now. I'm mostly a fingerstyle player anymore. I started out using picks...back then I used a 1mm Dunlop, if I remember right...whichever one is purple at any rate. Around '00, I decided I wanted to learn how to play with my fingers. Haven't looked back since. Now, I'm actually a LOT faster with my fingers than I would be with a pick.

I use the Clayton custom picks with my band's name on them. Colored Delrin (.5mm), standard shape.

Hmm, I'mma gonna look into those, something for the bands we play with to remember us by, and I think we might even sell a few off the merch table...

But currently I use Dayva Jazz grips, the Delrin ones. I'm not sure how happy I'll be with another pick, so the Clayton's would probably be promo/merch exclusively, but still worth a punt...

Definitely, it was $34.99 for 100. $0.35/pick ain't bad for promo purposes.
