When's the last time you cried unexpectedly?

I have a friend whose daughter is going through this right now; it's insane bc she's always been the cutest kid I've ever seen and school/society has done a real number on her. Crazy
Everyone I've known with it looks good. It's hard to deal with but is caused by neither society nor school. Some sufferers see their ten fingers as being too many. Have you known anyone bullied for having ten fingers? A man made the news for thinking he shouldn't have two legs and paying a surgeon to cut one off.

I'll go first.

They put out a Power Rangers movie on Netflix with much of the original cast. It was pretty cool to see, every bit as campy and corny as it was back when i was 9 years old. It was awesome.

i was explaining callbacks and inside jokes to my wife, much to her delight ;)

Anyway. At the end of the movie they played a clip from one of the original episodes where they were all singing and playing acoustic guitar. Many of the now-deceased cast members were focused on.

I cried uncontrollably for the next 20 minutes. Nothing but a heap of bawling man on the bedroom floor.

Surely I can't be the only person this has happened to:)
It hits without warning every time

Just now watching a 2008 James Taylor concert on PBS.
Not a super fan as when he was super popular I was a teenage rocker. Of course my sister had his records, and he was all over the radio.
Later on came to appreciate his guitar playing and chord voicings - he's a pretty sophisticated guitarist. And have played thru Pat Methany's chart of "James" which is fun.

But at the end of the concert he broke into "Carolina in My Mind", a song I've never heard. And don't know why but tears started streaming. I'm from the Pacific NW so the Carolinas mean nothing to me. I love that music can be so moving - sometimes just out of nowhere it can move me to tears. Gettin soft, I guess ;)

When an endodontist began a root canal by jamming a novacaine needle into my gum real hard, real deep, and all at once. An unexpected tear rolled outta my right eye. I was half expecting that dick to as me "is it safe?". lol

Reading Sunday’s NY Times article about the young immigrant rooferitos who, at 15 and 16, fall and die or are maimed or vegetative for life, hired by unscrupulous contractors.

One company was fined only $500 for the life of a child.

These young men look like the students I teach, and knowing what they face in our society moved me to tears. I was still choked up singing carols later that day in church.

“Oh ye, beneath life’s crushing load, whose forms are bending low/ Who toil along the climbing way with painful steps and slow/ Look now for glad and golden hours come swiftly on the wing/ O rest beside the weary road and hear the angels sing.”

Man, I could NOT get through those words up in the choir loft.

Last Sunday.

I got a text from my wife that said simply "Call me."

She and my youngest daughter were out shopping @ Costco - they have a routine where they get a hot dog while out shopping and Costco dogs are outstanding.

I called my wife and she said Nadean had fainted and cut her chin open. She's never had anything remotely like this happen in 22 years.

We've lost a daughter already. Having her just have this happen out of the blue really hit me hard.

It's good to read your words again MT. It's been a good, long while for me.

Take care.

I used to get what Tony described, but now I have this weird thing where I'm talking to my gal about art or a piece of music and find myself getting emotional as I describe the piece or performance.

Very strange.

I understand this. I little different but there are certain pieces of music that get me such as Samuel Barbers Adagio for Strings.

Aside from that I can get pretty emotional about animals. The first time I every cried in front of someone I didn't know well was when I went to have my cat put down. I was doing fine until they shaved his arm. To give a little context, my sister had passed away 4 months prior and I had not grieved or should I say had a proper cry. Seeing Sam get his arm shaved was like having someone pull a plug out of me. It all came out in the vet's office.
