Where did Glam Rock Go?

I may be one of the few guys on the board that will note I absolutely loved it.---- no love for harder rock before or after as they don't laugh at themselves.

-----

There were some great song writers that came aroud in the area.

-----

Where did it go.. was shut by Grunge... We through out our pink for dirty plaid... then threw out the combs.

I've played with tons better glam players than metal players.... it sold a ton more beer and records

am I the only one that liked "The Darkness" ... guess it's my age as glam rock was a little before my time as I was a kid and not listening to music at that point.

"The Darkness" was way cool!

Don't worry, steel panther is bringing it back.....
Steel Panther - Behind The Music - YouTube

I've seen these guys several times at the Key Club in Hollywood and I thought they played under a different name but don't recall. Unreal. They sold out every Monday night if I remember (did the same at The Roxy), amazing shows, hilariously over the top and self depricating (singer falling over as he came out, actual blowing fans for their hair, flying harness looked like a diaper, etc.). Friend of a friend was managing them....and they made a killing playing LA and Vegas.

Met them once, greatest guys, funny as can be and I'm not kidding when I say honestly talented. The singer has pipes beyond pipes. The entire audience was dressed for the show and it was too much fun.

And we'll be getting much the same answers, too, only more so. It is quite sad that so much of it is excellent music, because the lead "vocals" just destroy it for me.

It isn't extreme metal without extreme vocals.

That's like ordering a Baconator from Wendy's but asking for no bacon.

Listen to Opeth if you're having trouble transitioning into DM vox. Or even very early Morbid Angel when it still sounds like Thrash vox almost. Don't worry too much about trying to understand all the words. Picture it as just another instrument to add to the atmosphere of the song.

Yup, freaking LOVE those guys...saw them at the HOB in vegas, and at rock on the range this year. Guitarist and drummer are insanely talented too. It's gutter humor for sure, but who am I trying to kid? They were metal skool before the current name, and also went by danger kitty and atomic punks (VH tribute as well). Really looking forward to the new disc, "Feel the steel" is awesome.

As an aside, my friend dumped his girlfriend, and decided to get back together....after she wrote him an essay on why steel panther is the greatest rock band of all time (she HATES them)

All of the best music usually follows two patterns:

1. It is timeless.
2. It doesn't require you to change your style and join a clique.

Sorry Glam, you lose. I think we'll all hear the death rattle from Metal in our lifetime as well... thankfully... It's been reincarnating itself in equally miserable abominations for years now. And on that note, I also really can't wait for dubstep to be finished doing whatever it's doing.

In my opinion it's still here but I would never confuse the darkness and black veil brides with glam metal because glam metal standards are actually pretty high in the talent margin. However don't get me wrong those groups have talent just not awesome loud mind melting glam metal talent!! Black veil brides might dress like the crue but there too scared at this point to make real modernized glam metal!! But to get a good ideah of what modern glam metal would sound like just listen to Saints of Los Angeles by the crue , it kicks ass!!
