Where to start with failed new cabinet

I have my dream speaker cabinet. If you have ever heard one, y
ou may agree. It was offered after the manufacturer closed and designer retired with the oromise if warranty. No emails or posts have been answered. I do not know the conditions they are in and I won't presume.
The bottom two speakers were unplugged from the crossover when a wire was caught under an anchor when it was originally assembled. It sounded pretty good for a few moments until I changed to an active bass and it frizzled the sounds.
I reconnected the wire and it sounded muffled and then terribly distorted when pushed a bit.
Do crossovers fail when in this scenario? I can get new drivers that are close, a nice guy at Eminence sent me the specs they made the speakers to for this manufacturer and a source to buy them from. Eminence made them specially for this cabinet.
I called my local guru and he couldn't stop shouting about how ridiculous the design is. The combination of 6.5" and a crossover was too much to bear for him. I am very rural, there is not anaother option locally.

I wouldn't use it again until you make sure the wiring is correct. If the seller said it was warrantied I would bring it back if it was wired wrong at the factory.

I wouldn't use it again until you make sure the wiring is correct. If the seller said it was warrantied I would bring it back if it was wired wrong at the factory.

Pretty sure the wiring diagram is wrong. Did you draw it, or was it provided? Is this a 2-way design, or a 3-way design.


If 3-way, then the lower woofers should be wired the same. It looks like they are supposed to be connected in series parallel.

If they are series parallel, the connection should probably be like this:

Eliminating the wire with the X should connect the left pair of speakers the same as the right pair. Four 8 ohm speakers in series parallel = 8 ohms.

In order to test the speakers disconnect them from the crossover. All except the tweeter should be safe with full range sound at low volume. Even the tweeter can handle full-range sound if you keep the volume super low (just a whisper)--but don't play bass through the tweeter without the crossover..

This is more a symptom of a damaged amp rather than a damaged speaker, BUT if the speaker wiring is wrong and/or damaged you could conceivably have both.

Just as worrying is the color codes on the diagram... black is + on one jack and - on the other jack.

If you don't know what you are doing, you need to consult with the builder to get it sorted out, or take it to a QUALIFIED tech who can verify the things that we can't verify on a forum.

Do NOT plug it into an amp until this gets sorted out. You should also test your amp with a known good speaker because you may have more than a speaker repair to deal with.

I like the brand of crossover... matches pretty closely to what I thought when looking at the diagram.

Do NOT use any amp on this project until it's verified correct. As it sits now, it's called an "amp killer" among techs.

AFAIK this is wrong also.

I believe this represents two jacks in parallel. Bottom jack has B to + and top jack has B to -.

My guess is R should be + of both.

Just take your time and communicate clearly.

Have you tested the amp on a known good speaker cab yet? One thing at a time.

I wish you a bucket full of good luck getting this sorted.
One can only hope it is just the crossover that's kaput..
Try the amp with another cab first and let us know if it's still working.
