Most fun: Maybe House of the Rising Sun? We never play it the same way twice so it’s always a surprise where it goes, and our female vocalist can go from dark and sultry to belting. It’s one of the few songs in our set we play for us.

All I play is covers, so it's tough to pick one but at our last gig we played Pump It Up and that is a lot of fun.

As of now, just learned the whole Aja record. Man, Chuck Rainey, Talk about Melodic & Groove. Nice lines, Great sound!
Last one I learned was Saturnine by Polaris.

“They Love Each Other” by Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia
My favorite cover to play right now is a multi-way tie between “Eyes of the World”, “Tennessee Jed”, “Sweet Leaf” (as a reggae tune), and “Fool In The Rain” (no band playing this, but I’ve perfected the part now). Still working on getting “Ten Years Gone” down, what an amazing song.

Oh “Small Axe” by Bob Marley & The Wailers has been a lot of fun to play. Fam’s line is a masterpiece.
Last one I picked up was "Fascination Street" by the Cure. Not in a band so it was just for fun. Always loved that song, not sure why it took me 20 years to sit down for 5 minutes and learn it
The last cover I learned was Johnny Cash’s Ring Of Fire. Not interesting, but there it is. I’m in a backing band for an upcoming Elvis tribute show, and he wanted to sing it. Rhythm is a fluid concept in that song, with various singers adding and subtracting the 2/4 bar at will. Really more of an “on cue” situation, from a writing perspective.

- I like to play covers with intricate bass lines (like Footloose)
- I like to sing covers that have beautiful or personal lyrics (like Hallelujah, or Mad World)
- I like to perform covers that please an audience.
Last night learned "August Twelve" by Khruangbin. I love this tune, especially the last part. Hypnotic and artistic.
I had to learn this for a gig once. Man, I really don't like that song. Just one reporter's opinion, hopefully you actually like it!

Yeah, I covered it as part of a benefit, with a bunch of other lawyer/musicians I had just met. The woman who sang it was 8 months pregnant and sang the heck out of it. But yet I still don't like it. Go figure.
Don't recall which cover I learned last, but I had to learn about 75 (mostly more modern) Country songs in 3 days around Thanksgiving. I got it done, and to a pro standard, but can't hardly remember them by name. Before that, one of the funner cover tunes I had to learn for a gig was Dean Town - except the rest of the guys in that band didn't get it down. That was a little disappointing, but we've got a few gigs coming up soon... Hopefully they'll be ready this time around.
One of my favorite songs to cover with my mostly-original band is Boys of Summer. We do a few covers, but always turn them 100% into our own thing. I pay a lot of tribute to Pino in our version of Boys of Summer, though. And Solsbury Hill is another one I love to perform, with a lot of tribute to Tony Levin.
