Just added Tom Sawyer to our set list. We do a lot of corporate parties and weren't sure it was going to go over very well, but both times we've played it they loved it!

Which Cover Did You Learn Last And...

"Time Won't Wait" by Jamiroquai. The band is going to try it and see if we can pull it off. The bass line is a blast to play.
Thick As A Brick, Jethro Tull... coming along nicely, too...
YYZ, RUSH... a royal PIMA... if I can convince the rest of the band to play a detuned Doom version of this, at 15 bpm, I should be good...*
*... kidding. I'm pretty confident at about 85% of the original studio version tempo. Not sure what speed this live version plays at, but it's at least attainable.

I'd be surprised if a couple of these ever get gigged. Previous add was No More Tears (Ozzy), so it hasn't been worn out yet - still fun. Another one I enjoy is Sound Of Silence ala Disturbed. I like the intensity, the bass line is very simple.

Last one was just yesterday: "Don't Ask Me Why" by Billy Joel. Just started doing both his and Elton's songs and I have come to appreciate Mr. Joel's ability to craft a more complex song and make it sound simple.
Did you say Ian Moore? Got the Green Grass is one of my all time favorite albums by someone no one has ever heard of.
When my band was looking for Cure songs to cover, that was the one I suggested immediately, because the bass line in that tune is badass. But our drummer, who is a bigger Cure fan than I, suggested I would find Jumping Someone Else's Train to be more fun on the bass, plus it's a punkier song that suits our band better. He was right. Just for fun I learned Fascination Street and realized that by the end of the song I was pretty sick of playing that riff over and over, as cool as it is to listen to! Jumping has a lot more movement, plus it's awesome to lock in with the drums on, especially the outro.

Most recent: Black Velvet for a classic rock band, Until the Whole World Heard for my COM band. Favorite: My Favorite Mistake - I really don't know why.
Last cover learned was You Upset Me Baby, a hard driving Joe Bonamassa blues tune. It was the last of 4 songs I learned to audition for a band earlier tonight. It is a rocker and it was a blast!
Favorite is much harder. Midnight Tango off Al Di Meola's Elegant Gypsy album wins in a photo finish over Jameson's line in Marvin Gaye's Ain't no Mountain High Enough and a dozen of Family Man's tasty lines

Learning 4 at the moment,...No Roots/Alice Merton, Shut up and Dance/Walk the Moon , Faith/George Michael , and The way you make me feel, Michael Jackson. Should all be dance floor fillers,.....right before Christmas we worked up a Whole Lotta Love and Cashmere medley by Zep. Those two are fairly fun to play since we tend to do more dance oriented stuff. Nice to break things up every now and then 
This was a tie for me regarding favorite cover song, but Sober won out by sheer complexity and the reward factor. I love to bust out the groove for Fascination Street and see what everyone else in the band does. It is usually pretty cool, even if they have no idea what the "real" song is.
For my seniors ukulele group, I learned "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King, also "La Bamba" by Los Lobos (it's almost too fast for me) and Sinatra's version of "Fly Me to the Moon" so I could get better at jazz walking bass.
