Which Cover Did You Learn Last And...

I haven't played covers in years but I occasionally get the urge to learn some. The most recent covers I learned are "Road Fever" and "Home In My Hand" by Foghat.

Rock covers I enjoy playing are "Smokin" by Boston, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" by Queen, "The Real Me" by The Who and "Show Me The Way" by Peter Frampton.

Other covers I enjoy "Adelita" by Robert Walter, "All About My Girl" by Jimmy McGriff, "Strut" by Jimmy Smith, "F U Guys (First Take)" by Medeski, Martin and Wood.

There are apps that can raise the song by an octave (so the bass line is much more easily heard) and can slow it down. Game changer for me. I use Anytune, there are others

The one I learned most recently was "Resolution" off the Mahavishnu Orchestra's second album.

The one I enjoy playing the most is probably a three-way tie between "More Today (Than Yesterday)" by Spiral Staircase, "Miniature" by Tim Berne, and "Brick House" by The Commodores.

I learn/transcribe lots of covers but the last one I thought that was a milestone accomplishment was a note for note transcription of cross roads that I did, then memorizing that transcription. Also my 1st attempt at using the DAW and protools (lite) my wife bought me for Christmas, couldn’t figure out how to pull some of the bass out of the original but at least it’s there to keep me honest.

2000 Light Years from Home - because it fit in with a ton of other covers in the key of E that we put into a medley. More suggestions in E are always welcome! Hadn't heard that song or album in ages!
Get Down Tonight - it was requested by the dancing girls at a club we play regularly. We try to accommodate and they keep asking us back!!!

If people request something with a great groove or we find a nice groove that's familiar and good for dancing we'll give it a try....I'm getting a lot of good ideas reading this thread!!!

I'm currently (and for the foreseeable future) on an FZ immersion jag. I'm about a quarter of the way through "Echidna's Arf (Of You)" and "Inca Roads" (both great, and both really daunting), and have also learned "Camarillo Brillo," "I'm the Slime," "Dirty Love," "Can't Afford No Shoes" and "Po-Jama People." The band I'm in has also covered "Joe's Garage" (the song) and "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?" With Frank, as they say, the deeper you go, the deeper it gets... :woot:

Fat Bottom Girls we used the live at Wembley recording for most of it Queen did the vocals live three part and that suited us. Then we did the outro like the studio repeat fat bottom girl harmony voc. So Drop D tuning lots of fun playing and singing I always get the low vocal part. Playing it out for the first time tonight! Oh yeah and I have a thought and chest cold that won't go away! Happy Day!
