Which GK head?

I currently have a GK 400RB head and a GK 212 cab. I plan on getting another 212 and I am looking to upgrade my head also.

My question is what head would be the best to use with two 212 cabs?

IMO, an 800RB, a 700RB II or a 1001RB II are all good choices.
the 800RB if you like the tone of your present head but want ALOT more oomph, and the 1001RB II if you want ALOT more power and headroom.

I think that I want as much power as possible without overpowering the cabs. I like my tone now, why wouldn't I be able to get it with the 1001RB?

I have owned the 1001rbII, 700rbII and now have an 800rb.The newer style amps are fantastic amps in their own rights but they do not sound like the 400 or 800rb. I do not have any explanation for this other than it's what my ears tell me. I've been playing for over twenty years and have learned to trust my ears at this point. I have seen guys on here state they can nail the tone of an 800rb with the 1001rbII. I tried, I couldn't so I bought an 800rb. The sound was there as soon as I plugged, and that amp is hella loud. That's all I have to say about that. Good luck.

you would be able to get it very close with an 1001RB II. i just think that the 800RB is a bit more similar sounding to the 400RB.

I don't know if there would be a difference between two 2-12" NEO cabs or one 4-12" which is what I use. I have a 550 Fusion head and it is a good mate to the cab. I think it has the same power section as a 700RB, but I've been told by some that the 550 is louder(don't know why). Both are good heads, I like the Fusion because it is more versatile and makes my P's sound great. Also, having 2 separate channel settings is nice for either different basses or switching between fingerstyle and picking(which is what I do).

I think they are the same but having 2 would make carrying them a bit easier. I completely forgot about the 550, that is pretty interesting as well.

You can always get a larger power amp, and use the 400 as a pre amp.

If you are looking at the Fusion or 700RB power levels, you might also want to consider the MB500 and MB Fusion heads. They are 350 at 8-ohm and 500 at 4-ohm which is comparable to the 700RB. In terms of pure loudness I am not sure how they stack up directly to the 700RB but the MB500 IME is loud.

Great idea! But, I'm planning on selling the 400RB to help pay for the new head.

I use a Fusion 550 with a Neo 212 and a Neo 410. Monstrous.

I recently replaced my old 400RB head with a MB500 and could not be happier, works at all my gigs quiet jazz to blasting rock.

bassbrad beat me to it. i was a 400rb user for years and have began using the MB500.
can't beat it for volume, growl, and the weight is sweeeeeet. it is ferociously punchy for a 4 lb box. those 400rb's had the best natural growl of any GK for me. the older ones.
i got a replacement a while back, mark III, and the MB is much better for me.

I use a 1001RB II with a couple of Neo212 cabs and can truly say this rig surpasses my expectations every time. Never come close to running it hard. Gain and Master at 9'oclock is usually deafening

You can get a 1001RBII delivered to your door for like $600-620 from RMC audio. (or RCM i forget) You have to call them for the price quote.
Either 1001RBII or 800RB depending on the tone style you want.
You can get used 800's cheap. Used 1001RBII's are out there but for usually $100 more you can get a new one.

There are used 1001rb-II's on ebay for around $399 buy-it-now. I just nailed one on bid for $350. Cab selection is a little thinner. FWIW.
