What vintage of 400rb are you currently playing?
If it's the rbIV, then I'm not so sure you need a different head, unless you're playing huge stages.
That said, I play the 700rbII, and a 800rb (at one of my band's rehearsal spaces). One thing I love about the 700 compared to the 800 or any vintage of the 400 is the HMS. I also find myself missing the string filter on the 700 when using the 800...... I like to hear my low E when I play it. And one other thing about the 700 vs 800..... I can dial in the tone of the 800 with the 700...... but I can't get the 700's tone out of the 800.
You will not be able to get the grunt of the 400 from the 1001 unless you're at ear bleed volume levels.
The 700rbII can be had for a bit over $500 new, and will power the 2 212's just fine.
