Which GK head?

I've read that thread, it's a cool sound although the clean sound of these amps is where it's at for me, I use my Orange fairly clean as well. A pick + Jazz bass gets pretty growly by itself, I'm sure a lot of people run their GK's clean as well.

This may sound noobish:

After reading the manual for the cab, I saw some things that confused me. It says, "DO NOT connect more than one amplifier to your speaker enclosure. This will cause damage to your equipment." Does that mean I can't have two cabs being used at one time without bi-amping? If this is true, how come there are two 1/4" Input Jacks on the back of the head? So I start looking on how to bi-amp, but I remember that I can't do this because I have the 400RB which lacks that option.

Any advice?

Yes, that means your cab is one, or the other- it can't be both. There should be a label near the input jacks to tell you which you've got. It's important that your cab is 8Ohms and that the new one is also 8ohms. Unless you decide to get a 2001RB, which is gross overkill.

?- I have NO such problem- my E comes through like a truck. And yes, the 400RB and 800RB have their own sound and sound nearly identical. And the 800 will BURY the 400.
Next, what is the impedance of the cab you have now? Hopefully it's 8Ohms because if it's 4Ohms and you intend to add another one, you're out of luck with the 700, 800, and 1001RB's- they're only good down to 4Ohms total load.

It was a "slight" exaggeration to make the point of the low end roll off in the 800, as compared to the newer designs with the string filter on. It really becomes evident when you A/B them.

I actually dig the 800 (more so than I did back in the late 80's / early 90's when it seemed like everyone had it or the 400). I don' think the 800 will completely bury the newer 400 though, especially if the 400 is set at 4 string. It's 280 "GK" watts. It smokes.

You can make an argument for just about any GK head (yes, even the MB200! ) with that cab combo, IME/IMHO.
