I liked the Aguilar AGRO when I tried it in a store. Also the Green Rhino was great sounding. Both of these provided just enough grit without the fuzz. Hopefully they would cut through the mix when playing with a band. The Boss ODB on the other hand sounds great solo, but too easily gets lost in the mix when playing with guitarists.

Good question! There is not a trim pot but the knob is a master volume knob so, yes, you can achieve unity volume with the overdrive and breakup of the pedal! What you're hearing in the clip is an was approximately unity volume. Thanks for your interest.

Mmbongo is spot on, the hardwire cm2 is a beast, great for bass

I spent last night reading threads on the Pork Loin as per mmbongo's suggestion, and it seems like a pretty nice pedal, but only if you replace a capacitor(?)

I'm confused by this, "aggressive un-subtle, tubie, no fuzz, and a little grit". To me, agressive / un-subtle and no fuzz / little grit are mutually exclusive. That being said, I'm not sure what you're after.
I like my Catalin Bread SFT. You can dial in as much or as little grit / OD as you want. It's also responsive to the input level. If you play harder, you get a little more grit. I like it a lot. It gives me just a little bit of a tube driven type OD edge when I want or very un-subtle OD.

If you have the time check out the Darkglass B3K. I did a lot of research and with the help of these guys, bought one. Super sweet OD. Willl not do the fuzz sound, but can get a little "harsh" if you want. However for the most part it is a very smooth OD, and sounds great without losing the bass. Highly recommended.

You should have a soundcloud website to post your sound samples. it's a great website to post music and stuff. I've been using it to post my band's music.
I haven't played a modified pork loin but I never felt the need modify it, especially after comparing it to a barber shop and blueberry. Great sounding pedal that's not harsh or too square sounding.
I bought an Ashdown Bass Drive back in March. It was on back order at FullCompass, but they got it.
I agree, it's a killer pedal, totally underrated. Thanks to @andrew here on TB for the tip. I'm in the process of auditioning a number of OD pedals, and researching more, but the Hyperdrive is in my top two. Excellent demo below, by James himself. I typically dial it in as James does in the first half of the video: that kinda-subtle midrange dirt makes for a great always-on setting, and a 2nd overdrive can then be kicked in for heavy dist/fuzz.
I love the B7K (B3K plus EQ), but also love the Darkglass Vintage Deluxe (Vintage Microtubes with EQ). As noted these are expensive pedals (I gave myself a large pedal budget this year), but well worth it IMHO. The Vintage does have a more vintage range of tones. The BxK pedals can get there too, but have a "tight" tone (still with plenty of low end) that sounds a little more modern. My B7K and VMTD sound great when used together, too.
the mxr m89 bass overdrive.. the darkglass bk3.. those are some serious weapons for audio destruction.. they blow the doors off the boss odb 3.. i personally use the mxr bass overdrive.. and man let me tell ya.. the best dirt box i have ever used !!
