What's not to like about black? All I need now is a thumbrest or tugbar, mostly for aesthetics. The black blocks and binding of the Geddy necks looks great with the black guard

I like tort on white, black, and sunburst finishes. If not tort... Black. Makes any bass look a bit sinister.

What is it? Vintage '66, refin, reproduction, why the spitfire pg? Just general information. You can just toss op a gorgeous bass like that and say nothing.

'66 dot/bound J replica neck | Page 9 | TalkBass.com This thread spells it all out starting with one thing in mind and the evolution into this bass. It illustrates the way my mind works - through process. The short story is that it was my answer to snuffing out gas related to a bass I became fixated on years ago, which is an early 1966 Fender Jazz w/dot & bound fb and pops. Only made for 6 months from January to June of '66. Love, love, love them - first bitten by a great series of pic's of a Burgundy Mist one on ebay. It just looked so perfect. It looked like you'd see it in a swanky night club on stage being played by Tony Bennett's bass player, sitting down while playing - complete with tux, cuff-links and cigarette vapors hanging in the coloured air around him. (and Tony belting it out in front! - love the Tony!) I could never afford/justify the high price-tag (8-10k, or more-but hey, it's pretty damn rare), so I decided to make my own (for about $1400) and it came out great! Much talk spins endlessly on tb about the 'worth' of a bass… to me, this is probably 'worth' a lot more, but for that amount, it's totally worth that to me. I'm currently rocking it with Bond Girl (fb link below for pics and vids) and we adapt an air of that same nightclub vibe, abet w/o smoke luckily!

Thanks for the reply. Oly white/tort jazz basses have always been my favorites, and yours is one of the best examples I've seen. I've given Mark a hard time in the past for his tort guards not being authentic to the originals, but he nailed this one. You are making it very difficult for me to not refin my '62. Don't worry, it has already been refined twice.
