White or black bass?

I've never been a big fan of either black or white basses. I prefer sunburst and natural. However, if someone wanted to give me a black or white bass, I would probably graciously accept the gift and play it without worrying about the color. I do like a black pickguard on my basses--or maybe a pearloid white one which I don't have.

My first bass was a white squire p-bass, every bass since then, well, once you go black you never go back.

I've got both, and by far I look better with a black bass. I look so good with them that I doubt I will ever get another bass that isn't black unless it's some rare weirdo bass that strikes a nerve with me. Not like you'll never see me play a non-black bass again as I have plenty that aren't, but I just don't look quite as good as I do with black.

Black is probably my favorite color on most things. But not so much on instruments. I do have a black fretless Jazz that I like, but I tend to like white or off-white basses. But oddly enough, at the moment the only "white" bass I own is a Vintage White MIJ E-Series P. Here they are, along with my white Strat & Tele.

Whoa---those are HOT!!!

Anyhow, I have both--I like both the same, but as a smaller guy I always kinda figure the darker bass doesn't make me look so puny on stage!

Didn't read the whole thread........but I play a black bass and it's great until you're doing the outdoor gig and it's 100 degrees with the sun shining directly on your bass. Dang, that thing gets hot!

Oh the strings in that last pic...soooo many strings, I can't bear to look at the terrine! especially a strat of all things!!!...Seriously beautiful heard you have there. Your strat actually looks really classy

Black as you can get it with a touch of white. The guys over at Roscoe really listened to me when I said "no top wood, just show some of the wood grain and make the rest as black as black can be...":

That was surprisingly difficult and I found it interesting that it was dead even at 103/103 votes after I cast mine. For some reason I assumed black would be a bit more popular than white.

What color is the suit that you wear on stage?

Generally I would say white bass with a black suit and black bass with a white suit (only between Memorial Day and Labor Day of course). We can debate whether the hat should match bass or suit. If you wear a powder blue suit, a white bass most likely, and definitely a white hat.

In the near future I'm going to have a bass ukulele modified to look like a white Fender Jaguar (a Jaguarlele) because I wanted a tortoise pickguard (and truss rod cover) which I think looks best against white.
