I've been in one band, or another with my current guitarist since the late 80's. He's hands down the most versatile musician I know. He can go from some really slick John 5-type chicken pickin', to straight up shredding, ala Randy Rhoads.

Actually, in my freelance keyboard player life, I had much more problems with drummers!
These days, I'm playing with great guitarists, most of them are good human being.
Special mention to Mike Burns, from Toronto area. A good guy, great player! I have the chance to play with him every night at Quebec City this summer.

Nearly all the guitarists I've worked with have been great as both musicians, band members and people. The few that haven't didn't last long.
"Guitards" only exist in public because other musicians let them. Otherwise they would have to wise up and change their ways or retreat to their bedroom and stick to playing by themselves and making crappy YouTube videos where they can be successfully ignored.
