Who else does this to their cabs?

I pulled the little Avatar logo off my cab and now it looks like this.

They're mudflap weights for semi trucks. I first saw some at a truck stop and thought they were cool and started thinking about what I could do with them. I started looking for some when I got home but couldn't find any locally so I ended up buying off eBay. I had to buy a matched set so the mirror image is sitting in my closet, waiting for me to buy another cab.

My drummer's 4 yr old son is mesmerized by it.

I took a bit further than that. I have a Carvin 1x18" cab and BX1200 head. I took box for the head and stripped off the carpet, the sprayed it with rubber coating and white paint. It's nice clean white for now, but that's really more of a "blank canvas" for until I get creative and come up with something else to paint on it.

As for the cab, the first thing I did was take of the grill and spray paint it white, then stripped the carpet and painted it the same way as the box for the head. I'm going to get one of my buddies in graphic design to help me figure out what to paint on it.

I don't hate my Carvin gear. On the contrary, I bought it because it was cheap and was pleasantly surprised by its performance and versatility.

I just don't like it looking so boring, and it's summer so I have free time for projects like this. So get over it. Tags begone.

I agree totally with the "no free advertising" concept.
I've been asked to tape over badges for some shows, as it competes with other ads.
Personally I tape over most badges unless the company is no longer around, or they are somehow sponsoring me.
I also love playing with the badges. If resale value wasn't a concern I would have chopped up my old Mesa Boogie badges to read "Mesie Booga".
I've also used black and white electrical tape to change a keyboard players Korg badge to "orgy"...
There are heaps of badges that can easily be changed!

I guess I'm one of those guys that would put a big sign up saying "THIS IS A MESA/BOOGIE!!!" but my head and cabinet do that for me.

it actually says MESA/Boogie twice on my cab.

Agreed, I own one of those and use it for nothing more than a poweramp and Octaver, theres just nothing to the sound it provides.

im kinda of digging that look. i use to own one of those older GK backline 410 cabs. loved the sound but hated that funky red writing all over it..if i would have kept it..i probaly would have done the same thing...the new ones doesnt have that lettering anymore.

I took the Peavey logo off my VB-2. Not because I'm ashamed or anything, Peavey's logo is just hideous is all.

I like Peavey's logo, but I understand the sentiment. My first amp was a Squier and I took the logo off. Not because I was ashamed (I didn't know you were supposed to be ashamed of Squier gear at that time), but because I didn't like the way it looked. I'd take the logo off a Fender cab, too. I just don't like the way their logo looks on a cab. Same with Hartke or Trace Elliot, and some other brands.

I like the way the Ampeg and Sunn logos look, though. Pretty. Same with Ashdown and Mesa, and SWR (a shame, since I don't like SWR gear).

I actually like the way my cabs look mismatched, with the blue speakers and Ashdown logo on the 210 and the simple awesomeness of the Ampeg black and white on the 115. Now my rig is even more mismatched because I have a Mesa head. I don't like it to look too coordinated.

I had bought a 210 and a 115 GK backline cabs and the 210 was one of the newer ones with just a badge instead of the lame script writting on the grill. So I painted over the script, flipped the grill upside down and the GK badge is towards the top like the 210.

It kind of goes both ways for displaying the logo on gear.
Somebody player in the audience could think
"I want to sound like that I should buy the brand I see that guy playing"
Or
"I never want to sound like that, I should never buy the brand I see that guy playing"

It's about the music anyhow, and not about what brand I'm playing at the moment.

Did the dude at the accessories counter at Guitar Center NOT tell you they make a 2 space rack?

PS: I'm of the mind that when you remove or alter logos on cabinets, you can devalue them...but you, on the other hand, increased the value of your Backlines. They look really sharp and much more 'professional' than having that graffiti all over them.
