Actually, nearly every example in this thread looks better to me than the factory stock cosmetics. But I've seen some pretty awful hacks over the years.

Speaking in my professional/day-job capacity as a graphic designer, I'd say the Sunn logo is one of the best designed logos ever - clean, iconic, and just flat-out cool-as-all-hell. I can see why the doom metal band ripped it off, wholesale. I think the old Acoustic gear is comparable too, from a design standpoint.

I took the SWr logo off one of my cabs and painted the grill Red-Gold-Green, like an Ethiopian flag. Someone had already painted it black, so I wasn't concerned with keeping it stock or resale or anything. My drummer and I did it, it came out rather nice and is holding up well after a few years. If I had your Hartke I would also remove the casters. That's the first mod I do if needed. I like the cabinet coupled with the floor. I removed the casters from my 1- 18 cab, everyone thought I was nuts.

I had a BBE Maximizer and a rack tuner in it at one time, but they both took a dump on me, so now I have the vast void you see now.

I mix up the logos on my gear sometimes just to mess with folks and keep my feeble mind entertained. I even had a Fisher Price guitar amp for a while. I like to rehab and clean my cabs at least every 6 months so I just do it then. As far as resale value, it's a good idea to clean stuff, tighten screws, etc. before I list them, so the original logo goes back on then. Guitars would be tougher to do that to. My guitar rig is a Volkswagen amp and a Cadillac cab cause I got bored. The Fender logo went on the fender of my truck for a while... I'm easily entertained!

In a couple of weeks, my Charvel is going to be redone as a tribute to my late father who was a firefighter for 30 years. I'm just in the planning stages right now. I need to get gold hardware, get her re wired correctly, and then find a person who can do the paint the way I want it.

This thread has thoroughly convinced me to paint my DB750 bright yellow, so people will think it's a MarkBass. Furthermore, I will remove the Bergantino logo from my cab and put it on the headstock of my SX.

Yeah, I know what you're all thinking... "Ryan, you are a rock god."

As a professional performance photographer, I thank you for this.

I was thinking of covering up the "Mark B" on my Mark Bass combo with gaffers tape so that it just says "ass".

On a serious note, I did put gaffers tape over the "Backline" lettering on my GK amp. Which genius came up with that? Like kids are going to want to buy one because the logo looks like one of the chicks from the "Rock You Like Hurricane" video scratched it on there. Very gay.

I basically yanked the "Avatar" logo off my cabs, especially because I use them vertically. It's really easy, they're just these little metal bars and then you pull the glue off too. The cab looks much better IMO and I really doubt the resale has dropped. I mean my two cabs clock in at $330 a piece there's not much lower to go if I ever do intend on selling them (I probably won't) :cool:

Yeah, I had to go to work on the A of my SVP CL preamp for the same reason.
The thing is like a search light.

Camera guys can be a persnickety lot.

They don't like the LED of a Korg rack tuner bouncing back and forth in their shot either.

You want to have real fun? Take a seersucker blazer into a TV studio and tell the producer you want several tight shots.

I had Berg cabs for a while with the chrome grills.
Not only would lighting guys hate them, but a couple of award shows that were televised, they covered the grill up with black cloth.
And another date I had to use the Ampeg backline cab.

And yes photographers would have comments as well.

But TV....the worse.

I say forget resale value. I spent my hard earned cash on my head and cabinet. Not only that. I spend a lot of time researching what I wanted out of my rig. So they are mine. I will make them look like they are mine. Plus on the crappy occasion that some jerk thief steals my rig they too will get less money for the gear. So in the end I win. I guess.
