23 total, 22 four strings, 1 fiver. honestly, am sick of it. feel like a schizophrenic trying to give them all time. what it has really taught me is that i love the P bass design. i have 11 which are P style (fender/squier/modulus/schecter/ibanez). i could probably thin the rest of the herd and not miss 'em really.
I have twenty or so, but I know a guy named Scotty down South whose collection stood at 970 a few years ago. Should be well over 1,000 by now.
If it ain't broke don't fix it... I really couldn't say how long it actually was, but they were flats and I wasn't going for a super bright tone. I believe I read somewhere, James Jamerson had the same set of strings on his bas for a much longer period of time. My cello and upright probably had the same strings on them for more than 20 years. I've never broken a string on any instrument other than guitar. When I was in high school and didn't have a job, I used to take my electric bass strings off and boil them for a brighter tone. 25 years later, I just keep my strings clean, and clean my hands before playing.
So again I ask, what is the reason for all the string changes?

Last time I counted, I had 61 basses. I've bought a few more since then. Here is a big chunk of what I have -

My highest count at one time was 7 basses, 2 guitars. Now I'm down to 3 basses, 1 non working bass, and 2 guitars. I'm about to add another bass though.

The ad was simple... wrote it once and let it run... Since they were all in pristine shape, they went VERY fast.
this is my lot (minus a yamaha acoustic I forgot to put in the pic) If I never buy another instrument again I'd die happy - maybe w/ the exception of another acoustic guitar. haven't found "the one" yet. ooh and a fretless. and a hollow body. and a DB. . . I'm full of shlt aren't I?

Funny, I despise greed, materialism, hoarding, and the psychology of scarcity and control that they reflect.
BUT to the dude with 61 basses (Boston here too!), I have to say that at some point a big collection reflects real love, knowledge, discernment and intelligent curating. I think your collection makes a lot of sense. I actually hope it grows. Why not document the American electric bass? Well done. I just wish you could set up a permanent collection in the public domain, rather than scatter them as you need money or pass away.

I don't know if Hippie Sandwich is around any more, but that guy seemed to have at least one of everything.
